Tech headed to home of Duck Commander debut

When Louisiana Tech plays at Rice Stadium on Saturday, it will be playing on a field that holds a fair amount of Bulldog football history.
Before he made international fame making duck calls and starring one of cable’s highest-rated TV shows (Duck Dynasty), Phil Robertson was a quarterback at Louisiana Tech. His collegiate debut came on Sept. 18, 1965. at Rice Stadium against the Owls.
In that game at Rice, Robertson completed three of his five attempted passes for 37 yards and netted three yards on two rush attempts in the 14-0 loss.

Falcons runners-up

The Atlanta Falcons were runners up in the Ruston Parks and Recreation Department’s 7-11 year old Flag Football championship game last week at Joe Aillet Stadium as they fell 20 - 19 in overtime to the Green Bay Packers. RHS playoff tickets to go on sale today

First-round football playoff tickets for Ruston High School’s game against Natchitoches Central will go on sale at noon today.
Season ticket holders can go to the RHS main office and pick up their tickets by 1 p.m. Friday.
All tickets are $8.
Call RHS’s Virginia Rainwater at 255-0807 for more information.
Ruston enters the playoffs as the No. 13 seed in Class 5A while Natchitoches Central is the No. 20 seed.

Mr. Joe Allen Hall

Funeral services for Mr. Joe Allen Hall, 61 of Marion, LA, will be held Thursday, November 14, 2013, at 10:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church of Marion, LA. Officiating the service will be Rev. Bubba Hoggatt. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Bastrop.
Mr. Hall was born on December 21, 1951  and passed away on November 11 , 2013. Mr. Hall was a member of First Baptist Church of Marion.

Show someone an act of kindness today

Recently, a Ruston resident shared the story of a Good Samaritan who found his life savings and returned them to the bank — rather than making off with them.
A few months ago, a couple of Good Samaritans rescued a pair of toddlers who were waddling down a busy highway and brought them home to their parents.
As the weather cools off and the holiday season draws ever closer, many people start to think of ways to help their neighbors — though perhaps in more conventional ways than these Good Samaritans.

Pilgrims get short-sheeted

A couple of weeks ago on Halloween night, a zombie wobbled up the road and ran headlong into a miniature witch, a princess, a pint-sized pirate and a toddling red crayon. The next day they all hung Christmas decorations.
Well, maybe not literally. Or maybe so. Once again, we’re on the cusp of the season of too much to do, too many places to go, and seemingly, too little time to do all of it. Thanksgiving is two weeks away; Christmas four weeks after that.
