Robert (Bob) George Peper

Robert (Bob) George Peper, 62, passed away peacefully at his beloved farm and home in Choudrant, Louisiana on Monday, January 6, 2014. He was born July 16, 1951 in Berlington, Wisconsin to George and Beverly (Haan) Peper. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Kathy (Ziaya) whom he married in January, 1971 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Bob was an avid adventurer. He and Kathy were fortunate enough to have opportunity to live in such beautiful states as Wisconsin, Alaska, Texas, and Louisiana. In Louisiana, Bob, owned and operated the dairy equipment company, Beaver Creek Enterprises.

John J. “Mickey” McHale

Funeral services for John J. “Mickey” McHale, age 76, of Ruston will be held Friday, January 10, 2014 at 2:00 PM at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Ruston. Officiating the service will be The Reverend Bill Easterling. Interment will follow at Pines Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Mr. McHale was born July 29, 1937 and passed away January 6, 2014. Mickey loved his God and his church. He was an active member of The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Ruston. He also loved his family and adored his wife.

Tim Parker rises to Deputy Chief position

Recent promotions at the Ruston Police Department have resulted in the former Capt. Tim Parker rising to a higher rank.
After taking over patrol operations in November 2012, Parker was just recently promoted from the rank of Captain to Deputy Chief of Police.
“It was unexpected to me,” Parker said. “Being in this position allows me to be more involved in our day-to-day operations.”
Parker said the position of deputy chief of police is a civil service position and anyone who has served on the force for at least seven years that holds a certain rank can apply for the job.

McHale passes away

After a long battle with cancer, John H. “Mickey” McHale a long-time resident of Ruston and friend to the community passed away Monday night.
John Emory Sr. said he had known McHale for years and years.
“He was a great man,” Emory said. “It’s a shocker for sure and I am so sorry. This has completely floored me and I don’t know what to say.”
John Tom James said McHale was one of the most generous people he has ever known.
“He has helped people financially and emotionally,” James said. “He reached out to those people he knew and those he didn’t know.”

DA Levy to retire

Long-time 3rd Judicial District Attorney Bob Levy will not seek re-election this fall. Levy announced his decision Monday after meeting with his staff.
“By the end of this term, I will have served as district attorney for 24 years,” Levy said in a statement issued Monday afternoon. “While I loved this job, I think it is time for someone else to have the opportunity to take on the responsibility of being the chief law enforcement official of this district.”

Committee suggests Riley Co. for SHS track project

Walpole reviews capital outlay timeline

If the entire Lincoln Parish School Board agrees with a suggestion from the Building and Grounds Committee during the 6 p.m. regular meeting tonight, Choudrant High School will be one step closer to a brand new track.
During a special lunch-time meeting on Monday, committee members voted unanimously to recommend that the board hire Riley Engineering Company of Ruston to move forward with the proposed $1.9 million track project.
