Ms. Macelle Hunt

Graveside services for Ms. Macelle Hunt, 90, of Dubach, LA, will be held at Hamilton Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2013. Officiating the service will be Bro. Todd Free under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Ms. Hunt was born on January 7, 1923, and passed away on September 12, 2013, in Ruston, LA, following a brief illness. Macelle was a member of First Baptist Church of Dubach and was a member of the Flora Colvin Sunday School class. After moving into the Russ House Assisted Living, Ms.

Lola Kathleen Edwards Bennett

Funeral services for Lola Kathleen Edwards Bennett, age 91, of Choudrant, LA will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday September 14, 2013 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Officiating the services will be Rev. Bill Sanderson. Interment will follow at Sibley Cemetery near Choudrant under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Mrs. Bennett was born April 28, 1922 and passed away September 11, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Richard Bennett, Jr. and son, Ronnie Bennett. Mrs. Bennett was a member of the Alabama Presbyterian Church.

Man rams duplex after running red light

At approximately 1:30 p.m. Wednesday a charcoal grey Ford F-150 was traveling north on Everett Street when he reportedly ran the red light intersection of Everett Street and Alabama Avenue. According to a police officer on scene, the driver of the Ford struck a Toyota Tacoma. The officer stated this appeared to be what caused the truck to spin around coming to a stop upon hitting the duplex on the corner of Everett Street and Alabama Avenue.

LPSO makes arrest

Man picked up for carnal knowledge

The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office apprehended one male for carnal knowledge of a juvenile at 11:54 p.m. on Wednesday.
Carlos Dewayne Thomas II, 19, of 10805 U.S. Highway 151, Dubach, was arrested by LPSO on U.S. Highway 33 at Kentucky Avenue at 11:54 p.m. He was arrested on one count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and the bail is yet to be set.

Red carpet to be rolled out

Celebrity to host movie premiere Saturday

Popcorn, celebrities and the red carpet are thoughts far from a person’s mind when thinking of Ruston. However, coming up Saturday there will be a premiere showing of “Liar,” a new suspense thriller, at Celebrity Theatres.
Award winning director Todd E. Braley’s “Liar” is featuring an all star cast with local actors from the region.

Art exhibit opens Friday

Whether it is through Louisiana Tech University or Grambling State University, Ruston is fortunate to have such an arts presence within the community.
This time it will be Tech playing host to a gallery titled “Ephemera: 150 Years of Enterprise,” which has been curated by Associate Professor of Art Saul Zalesch.
Zalesch said he first worked with ephemera in 1993 as a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellow at the Winterthur Library in Delaware.

Painting the town blue

Young Democrats to charter Sunday

While the state might be red as a whole, according to the Louisiana Voter Registration database there are more registered Democrats in Lincoln Parish than there are Republicans.
Now, there is a group for those young people in the area who ascribe to those Democratic principles.
Charla Burns, North Louisiana Regional Director of the Young Democrats of Louisiana, said she felt the area needed a group because there hasn’t been much Democratic activity in the northern part of the state thus far.
