Lora (Puddin) Skinner Dring

Lora (Puddin) Skinner Dring was born September 23, 1917 to Charlie and Gertrude Skinner. She went to live with her heavenly Father on August 14, 2013 at the age of 95. Services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 AM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Officiating the services will be Dr. Michael Hawley. Visitation will be Friday night from 5-7 PM at the Funeral Home. She is preceded in death by her husband: Arvel Frank “Pat” Dring, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters. Mrs.

The streets in the Hill's of Grambling were recommended mostly by the citizens to be considered next to be repaired.

Area troops to deploy Friday

in
Local National Guard to leave in procession at 10 a.m.

It has been more than a decade since the War on Terror began.
And since then hundreds of local military personnel have served their country.
Capt. Robert Parker, of Ruston, along with other members of the 527th Engineering Battalion 844th Engineering Company, will begin their journey to Kuwait at 10 a.m. Friday.
“The guys going on this deployment are not only from Ruston, but also from West Monroe and Pineville,” Parker said. “They are college students, public works guys, local mill workers, policemen and firemen.”

RHS band offers sneak peek

After two weeks of hard work and practice, the Ruston High School Band showcased what they learned Friday at the band’s 2013-14 Sneak Peak. On the practice field, the band gave those in attendance a preview of what to expect throughout the year, including numbers from the pregame and away shows. The RHS band will also play at Bearcat Madness on Saturday at Hoss Garrett Stadium. The event will start at 10 a.m.

A precious discussion

There is trouble ahead in the future if something isn’t done about it now.
That was the main message conveyed Monday as experts involved with the Sparta Aquifer met with TEA Party members during their monthly meeting held at Ruston Country Club.
Ben McGee, of the U.S. Geological Service; Richard Durrett, of Waggoner Engineering; and Rick Hohlt, Sparta Commission member, served as panel team members to speak on “The Future of the Sparta Aquifer.”
McGee started the session explaining the history of the Sparta Aquifer and how it has been gradually depleted over time.
