Enjoyed the attention, glad to be back home

101313 Marna Piano C.jpg

“This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24.
I changed the words “let us” to “I will” — making it my personal mantra on rising each morning. To this I add a smile, even when I feel bad or just grumpy. You might try it. It’s a great kick-start for my days.
I’ve been sicker than I ever want to be again. I was in three hospitals in one day, but that’s behind me now. And am I ever glad to stop “sleeping around.” In fact, I’m back home finally.
I won’t give you an “organ” recital of all that went wrong, but it did bring the family all together.

Deer stand: An inevitable accident?

in
100412 DEER STAND C.jpg

He was a 22-year-old stud muffin, invincible, with testosterone raging and a nothing-bad-can-happen-to-me attitude.
He had the world by the tail with only good stuff lying ahead.
Two years later, he’s a 24- year-old paraplegic, destined to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
What happened to cause such a life-altering change?
He made a critical error in judgment while climbing into his deer stand. He hadn’t bothered to check the condition of the wooden steps he’d nailed to the tree a couple of years ago.

Downtown businesses revive after long-time construction project

in
Downtown.jpg

Downtown business owner Patricia Willis remembers days when suppliers had a hard time finding her front door, let alone making deliveries. Sales were slow. Traffic was one-lane only.
Times have changed. The construction along Trenton and Vienna streets is finished.
“Our sales have improved. People are coming back downtown,” Willis, owner of The Children’s Shoppe, located at 109 N. Trenton St., said Monday.
Construction crews are now on West Mississippi Avenue, the next phase of an estimated $9 million core streetscape enhancement program.

Poor Man’s Supper to raise funds for CCA

The need for assistance has greatly increased in Lincoln Parish, which is why this year’s Poor Man’s Supper is a must-attend event.
“Right now, we are extremely low at (Christian Community Action) on our funds, so we do encourage people to come out and bid on the silent auction items, as well as come out and support the supper itself,” Stephanie Mitchell, director of CCA, said.
