THE CITY of Grambling is accepting bids to purchase a 2014 Freightliner model M2-106 with new Heil Model 5000-25 yard rear loading garbage truck. Mrs. Faye Imogene Williams Watson

Funeral services for Mrs. Faye Imogene Williams Watson, age 88 of Ruston, will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Northside Church of Christ in Ruston.  Pastor Don Stevens  will be officiating. Services are under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Watson went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 24, 2014 in Shreveport, from the effects of a recent stroke.

Funeral services for Johnny R. Spears will be held Monday, April 28, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden, Louisiana. Officiating will be Rev. Leland Crawford. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory in Minden, Louisiana. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Rose- Neath Funeral Home in Minden.

LPNET makes drug bust

The execution of a search warrant by the Lincoln Parish Narcotics Enforcement team has led to the arrest of four individuals.
On Friday, LPNET agents executed a search warrant at a residence in the 900 block of Fisher Lane.
Public Information Officer with the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office Maj. Chad Alexander said agents detected a strong odor of both burnt and green marijuana when entering the residence.

Second annual autism run a success

The second annual Hope for Autism 5k race was held at Lincoln Parish Park on Saturday.
More than 400 participants came out to show their support for Autism Spectrum Disorder, which affects 1 in 68 children. Micheal Pruden won first place in the men’s division with a time of 21:50. The first place winner for the women’s division was Suzanne Tyler, a special education teacher at Glen View Elementary, with a time of 23:11.
“I’m running today for two of my students,” Tyler said.
All proceeds raised from the event will benefit the Hope Center for Autism, located at 206 E. Reynolds Drive.

CTB raises money for MOD

The fifth annual Community Trust Bank Crawfish Boil and Silent Auction were yet again a huge success for the March of Dimes.
All proceeds raised from the event benefit the March of Dimes in their research to put an end to premature births, infant immortality and birth defects.
Jo Daddy’s catering provided crawfish for attendees, while live entertainment was provided by The Josh Madden Band.
Silent auction items included a BlueDog painting, which bidding topped out at more than $1,000, Justin Timberlake concert tickets, sports memorabilia and dinners from local restaurants.

New facility in the works

Updated courthouse a possibility for parish

Sen. Rick Gallot and the Lincoln Parish Police Jury are getting the ball rolling on a new courthouse for downtown Ruston. However, the ball may be rolling for several years before any ground is broken.
“The application is due by Nov. 1 and then it will be a complex process over the course of several years,” Parish Administrator Courtney Hall said in the police jury’s regular monthly meeting April 8. “It will take somewhere around 25 steps to complete the application.”

Tech baseball clinches series over Ala. A&M

Louisiana Tech came away with a series victory after a double steal in the eighth inning broke up a tied game and sealed a 3-1 win over Alabama A&M Saturday afternoon at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.

Tech softball splits DH vs. East Carolina

Anna Cross recorded a three-hit game and Bianca Duran worked out of trouble all day to lead Louisiana Tech to a 6-2 victory over East Carolina in game one of a Conference USA doubleheader Saturday at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
ECU (24-18, 11-9 C-USA) rebounded to shut out Tech (19-29, 7-12 C-USA) by a score of 7-0 in game two. The two teams will complete the three-game series with a single game slated for noon today.
