GSU’s Hill state Co-Player of Week

Grambling State University junior guard Shakyla Hill was selected the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Women’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week on Monday.
Hill surpassed the 1,000-point plateau in Grambling State’s loss to Alabama. She scored a career-high 26 points and grabbed 13 boards against the Crimson Tide. She finished with eight steals (third in the country in that category) and four assists. Hill shot 50 percent (10-of-20) from the field and 83.3 percent (5-of-6) from the foul line.

Techsters end strong to down Warhawks

Louisiana Tech overcame a 14-point first half deficit and used a 21-0 run in the second half to pull away from Louisiana-Monroe in a 71-49 Lady Techster victory Monday night at the Thomas Assembly Center.
ULM shot 81 percent (9-11) in the first quarter and 69 percent (15-22) in the first half to take a 35-24 lead into the halftime locker room. Tech’s only lead of the opening two quarters came at 2-0 in the first 60 seconds of the game.

Dunkin’ Dogs to host Ragin’ Cajuns tonight

Mid-December has arrived, meaning it’s time for the annual in-state showdown between Louisiana Tech and Louisiana-Lafayette.
The Bulldogs and Ragin’ Cajuns will square off for the 163rd time on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. inside the Thomas Assembly Center on Karl Malone Court.
It will be the final non-conference home game for Tech (7-2), wrapping up a four-game home stand in which they have registered wins over Miles College and Jackson State and suffered a two-point loss to Stephen F. Austin.

Former Bearcat representing LSU on SEC Community Service team

BATON ROUGE — Senior tight end John David Moore has been selected to represent LSU on the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team for 2017, the league office has announced.
The SEC names a Community Service Team for each of its 21-league sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts.

Harry Marvin “Bud” Morrison

Harry Marvin “Bud” Morrison, 76, of Choudrant, LA passed away on December 10, 2017. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Longstraw Cemetery in Choudrant under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Grambling pair deserve recognition

The Ruston Daily Leader congratulates a pair of Grambling State legends for being honored by the Southwestern Athletic Conference earlier this month.
College Hall of Fame baseball coach Wilbert Ellis was honored with a SWAC Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award while former women’s basketball head coach David Ponton was inducted to the 2017 Southwestern Athletic Conference Hall of Fame.
