RJHS pleased with ranking

It is quite the challenge to attempt to understand our state’s complex new system of evaluating and rating schools. At times we as educators feel as though we are aiming for a moving target as the rating system appears to change almost daily. Despite this challenge, we at Ruston Junior High School are quite pleased with our “B” ranking, a goal that was set five years ago. Our journey began with recognition that change was essential: change in our school culture, change in our teaching climate and change in instructional strategies.

Region II Science and Engineering Fair

Louisiana Tech University recently held the annual regional science fair in the TONK at the Student Center where students from all over Lincoln Parish from grades three through 12 competed for a chance to compete at the state level.
Third through fifth
Winners from grades three through five were as follows:
•First place winners were Min Teng, McGuire Toncrey, Caroline Cooper, Keturah Albritton, Braden Jones, Anna Little, Jalen Penegar, Briley Kent, Caleb Granger, Joshua Thorson, Sahar Ali and Lauren Smith.

Cypress Springs Elementary students hard at work

Third Grade
Third graders at CSE are continuing to work hard in preparation for the upcoming iLEAP test and are learning so much in the process!
In math, students are continuing to master multiplication and division facts and recently, they have been able to take this knowledge a step further to practice multiplying three numbers and even solving basic problems with variables.

Career Technical College holds graduation

Career Technical College recently held its winter graduation ceremony where 128 graduates were recognized for their accomplishments.
The graduates were recognized before a large crowd of family and friends at the Jack Howard Theater of the Monroe Civic Center. Keynote speaker for the event was Brad Burtram, human resources director for Vantage Health Plan.
CTC, a campus of Delta Career Education Corporation, is proud to participate in changing futures and changing lives of the residents of this community and surrounding parishes.

Helicopter lands at Hillcrest, students tour

Students of Hillcrest Elementary School were able to witness a helicopter actually land on their playground Thursday afternoon. The second grade Advanced Learning Academy class was able to go closer after the Pafford Air One flight crew landed to ask questions and visit with the pilots.

Submitted photo- Jim Tuten, warden at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center, was the guest speaker at the Ruston Kiwanis Club meeting on Feb. 20. Tuten gave a historical review of the Detention Center and discussed its current operation by the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Department.

Catching the writing bug in 5-star accommodations

Well, you will never believe the things that have been happening to me this week. I am temporarily a resident in an assisted living place that is amazing. One of my friends said it was comparable to a 5-star hotel.
Believe it or not, it is within about 5-10 minutes from our house on the side street of my dermatology clinic. I’ve driven by a jillion times and never noticed it, but it truly is a lovely establishment, with unbelievable accommodations.
