Regular meeeting

Lincoln Parish Waterworks District # 3 of Ruston, Louisiana met in a regular meeting on this date. The commissioner's present was, Mr. Jack Allen president, Mr. Randy Snow, Mr. Ralph McVay, Mr. G.W. Kimble and Mr. Willard Anderson. Also present was Mr. Chris Harris, manager.

James Marvin McBride, “Mac”

James Marvin McBride, “Mac”, 78, entered into his Father's arm's Friday, August 23, 2013. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Friday, August 30, 2013 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. The celebration of his life will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston, with burial to follow at Pines Memorial Gardens. Mac is now healed by our Lord and is no longer a victim of cancer, no more suffering. Now, we pray that our Lord heal the broken hearts of those close to him as this world is but temporary home. Pallbearers are: Allen Lee, Dr. David Hall, Dr.

One dead, two injured at Hodge mill

HODGE (AP) — One person is dead and two people were injured following an accident Tuesday at the RockTenn paper mill in Jackson Parish.
Hodge Police Department, the Jonesboro Fire Department and ambulance services responded to a call at the mill around 10 a.m. Tuesday for what was described as a "confined-space rescue operation involving three people."
Authorities said there was no explosion, chemical leak or danger to the public as had been earlier reported.

Event stresses importance of agencies working together

The Domestic Abuse Resistance Team has been serving Lincoln Parish, along with six other parishes, since 1994. In that time those involved have managed to bring awareness to issues and to help those in need.
The 13th annual Collaboration is the Key seminar was held on Aug. 21 hosting numerous speakers that covered topics from sexting, texting and the dark side of the Internet; from bullying to battering; and leadership skills for the crowd of more than 125 area residents.
DART Legal Advocate Wanda James said the importance of the collaboration is working together.

Self-defense class kicks off

NLMC to host event at intramural center

Each year there are hundreds of incidents that women could have avoided if they had received the proper information.
Healthy Woman, a Northern Louisiana Medical Center resource, will host a self-defense seminar at 6 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Maxie Lambright Intramural Center on the campus of Louisiana Tech University.
Although the event is free and open to the public those interested are encourages to register because space is limited.

Louisiana youth concussion act

Two years ago, Gov. Bobby Jindal signed into law the Louisiana Youth Concussion Act. With the signing of Bill 189/Act 314, sponsored by State Sen. Sherry Cheek (R-Shreveport), youth and high school athletes in Louisiana receive more extensive oversight in the diagnosis and treatment. The law also establishes guidelines in removal from activities and more concise procedures if the occurrence of a concussion is suspected.

Army Reserve Col. Gerald J. Gafford has graduated from the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Carlisle, Penn., and earned a master’s degree in Strategic Studies. The college is the Army’s senior educational institution.
The 10-month curriculum of the Army’s senior officer school is designed to prepare and train officers of all the U.S. military branches of service, foreign military officers, as well as senior civilian officials of federal agencies, to serve in top-level command and staff positions with the U.S. Armed Forces worldwide.
