Miss Henri Alice Wise

Services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Ruston for Miss Henri Alice Wise of Ruston,LA.
She died Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS.
Burial will be in Hamilton Cemetery in Dubach, LA.

Leon Pesnell

Graveside services for Leon Pesnell, age 82, were held Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Alabama Baptist Church Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Ronnie Flurry, nephew officiating. Leon was born June 30, 1931 in Lincoln Parish and died at North Louisiana Medical Center on April 17, 2014 after a short illness due to complications from cancer. Leon had a career as a long distance truck driver.

Tech’s White reportedly mulling head coaching offer from Tennessee

Every Louisiana Tech athletics fan knows that success for one of their teams means the potential loss of a head coach to a program able to offer a much more lucrative contract.
And that’s what is facing supporters of the Dunkin’ Dogs today amidst reporters that Tech men’s basketball coach has been offered a deal to become head men’s coach at the Southeastern Conference’s University of Tennessee.
The 37-year-old White has compiled a record of 74-31 at Tech. The Bulldogs have captured back-to-back regular-season conference championships and will return four starters in 2014-15.

Lady Cougars celebrate district title

The Cedar Creek Lady Cougars won the District 1-1A softball championship and will begin the Louisiana High School Athletic Association playoffs as 12th seed. They’ll play host to No. 21 Montgomery in a game set to start at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Team members are bottom row, left to right, Gabbie Turner, Halie Robinson, Harlie Robinson, Katelin Cooper, Elizabeth Kate Pardue, Lauren Wade and Hallie Rambin. Top Row, Haley Gray, Caley Pyles, Nicole Brashear, Anna Larr Roberson, Mary Terral, Sydney Moore, Cecilia Akin, Christin Moore, Mary Julia Klug and Logan Brown.

S. Miss completes sweep of ’Dogs

Southern Miss scored five runs in the first inning, which led the Golden Eagles to a series sweep of Louisiana Tech with an 8-3 win over the Bulldogs Sunday afternoon in the series finale at Pete Taylor Park.
A five-run first inning gave Southern Miss (24-17, 13-5 C-USA) an early advantage in the final game of the weekend, while the Bulldogs scored three runs late in the game, but the deficit was too much to overcome for Tech (10-27, 4-17 C-USA).
Cody Carroll (3-0) started for Southern Miss and earned the win after holding the Bulldogs to three hits in six innings on the mound.

Inside Tech Baseball to air

Louisiana Tech head coach Wade Simoneaux will join Bulldog broadcaster Dave Nitz in the studio for his weekly one-hour edition of Inside Bulldog Baseball, which airs tonight at 6 p.m. on KNBB 97.7 FM.
Nitz and Simoneaux will sit down at the local ESPN studios to recap Louisiana Tech’s three-game conference road series against Southern Miss. The two will also take a look at the upcoming three-game non-conference series with Alabama A&M, which begins at 6 p.m. Friday.

For the fifth consecutive year in a row, Community Trust Bank will continue to do its part in support of the March of Dimes.
The fifth annual March of Dimes Crawfish Boil and Silent Auction is set to be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Community Trust Bank Financial Center, located at 1511 N. Trenton St.
Tickets for this annual event can be purchased prior to or at the event itself. Tickets for four pounds of crawfish, corn, potato and a drink are $25. To-go orders are available.

RPD to take back drugs

CDS prescriptions will be collected at station Saturday

The Ruston Police Department will participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s collaborative effort with state and local law enforcement agencies on Saturday to focus on removing potentially dangerous controlled dangerous substances from the nation’s medicine cabinet.
According to the 2011 Substances Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), twice as many Americans regularly abused prescription drugs than the number that regularly used cocaine, hallucinogens, heroin and inhalants combined.

Awards dinner set for May

During a May 8 banquet at Squire Creek, three entities that have made significant contributions to this area will be honored.
Louisiana Tech University’s College of Business will induct prominent businessmen James Davison and Glen Post into the College of Business Hall of Fame, while the Chamber of Commerce will honor Ruston Florist as the 2014 Business of the Year.
