MONROE — After having to practice in the dark in Fant-Ewing Coliseum the night before due to a power outage, Louisiana Tech then shot the lights out on Sunday night versus ULM.
The Bulldogs shot 57.1 percent from the field, led by Alex Hamilton who nearly pulled off the double-double with a team-high 17 points and a career-high nine rebounds to take the dominant 83-61 win over the I-20 neighbor Warhawks.

Techsters race past Alabama A&M

According to Louisiana Tech head coach Teresa Weatherspoon, junior point guard Chrisstasia Walter plays at one speed … fast.
Walter and her Lady Techster teammates sped past Alabama A&M Sunday afternoon 81-51 as Tech won its fifth straight game at the Thomas Assembly Center.
The Texarkana, Ark., native scored 16 points, dished out 10 assists, recorded seven steals and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Lady Techsters to the 30-point victory.

Christmas Cheer spread through parish

Many Lincoln Parish residents should probably take a lead provided by the Louisiana Tech University soccer team recently.
With Christmas season upon us, the Lady Techsters recently visited both the Russ House and Princeton Place nursing homes in Ruston to share a little holiday cheer. The team handed out Christmas cards to the elderly and took time to visit with the residents.
It was a wonderful thing to do, and something many of us can learn from.

After storm, count your blessings

While many of us will spend much of today cleaning up following Saturday’s storm that left widespread damage across the area, we can’t forget how lucky we are. No lives were lost as a result of the storm. Property can be replaced; people and other loved ones like family pets can’t.
The National Weather Service reported that much of the damage was caused by straight-line winds, although at least one tornado was officially confirmed.
When I woke up Saturday morning I knew we could be in for a stormy day.

Services for Paul Stephen (Steve) Sims will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2013 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel in Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating will be Dr. B. J. Maddox of Rose Park Baptist Church. Graveside service to follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery in Bossier City. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Rose-Neath Southside from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Steve was born June 14, 1947 in West Monroe, Louisiana. He was a well respected pharmacist at CVS on Pines Road for 35 years. When not at work, Steve was very actively involved with his family's athletics.

Funeral services for Mrs. Vicky Lee Spillers Frazier, age 67 of Choudrant, will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 23, 2013 at Owens Memorial Chapel. Officiating the service will be Rev. Jerry Whitman. Burial  will follow in Sibley Cemetery in Choudrant under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Frazier was born November 13, 1946 in West Monroe to Charles D. Spillers and Easter Smith Spillers and died December 20, 2013 in Monroe. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Choudrant. In her spare time, Mrs.

Funeral services for Mariola Hollis Foster, age 71, of Ruston, LA will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Temple Baptist Church Chapel in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Rev. David Abernathy. Interment will follow at Camp Creek Cemetery in Spearsville, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA. Mrs. Foster was born October 12, 1942 and passed away Friday, December 20, 2013 after a lengthy Illness. She was preceded in death by the love of her life; Terry Foster and her son Robert.

Leslie "Gene" Jackson

Leslie "Gene" Jackson departed peacefully from this life on December 19, 2013. He was surrounded by family and friends in his Ruston home after succumbing to a long, terminal illness. The family is receiving guests during a Visitation, Sunday afternoon, December 22nd, 5-7pm at Grace United Methodist Church (GUMC), 3401 North Trenton Street, Ruston, LA. A memorial service to celebrate his life will take place December 23rd, at 1pm also at GUMC. Officiating the service will be Rev. Scott Adams. Military Honors to be conducted following the service, weather permitting.
