Prep track presses ahead

Local prep track and field fans are in a championship frenzy times two after Simsboro High School’s and New Living School’s boys squads captured state titles last week.
New Living Word, coached by Kevin Jackson, raced to the Class C state boys track and field championship on Thursday. The Lions took first place in eight events, easily outdistancing second place Johnson Bayou.
Then the Simsboro High School boys track team, coached by Chris Campbell, took home a Class B state track and field championship on Friday as the Tigers edged past Centerville by three points.

Lincoln 4-H students honored

The LSU AgCenter was proud to host more than 400 Lincoln Parish 4-H members, leaders, parents and volunteers as they learned “Don’t Be Chicken About Nutrition” at the 2014 Lincoln Parish 4-H Achievement Day held April 23, at the North Louisiana Exhibition Center. 4-H members from 15 school and 4-H clubs throughout Lincoln Parish took part in various activities, which included the 4-H quiz bowl; 4-H club song, yell, banner and T-shirt contests; and a test was given on nutrition.

REGULAR MEETING OF TOWN COUNCIL The Town Council of Dubach, Louisiana met in Regular Session Monday, April 21, 2014 at 6:30 pm at the Town Hall.
Present were Honorable Bob Jensen, Mayor and Council members Vallie Carrico, Hattie Graham, Robert Colvin, Donna Lewis, Davie Powell, Justina Hensley, MMC and Briana Arrington
with the Ruston Daily Leader.

GSU awards Toyota’s Colon honorary degree

Jim Colon had never visited Grambling State University until Thursday. On Friday, he received an honorary doctorate from GSU.
During a whirlwind day, Colon met a host of university officials but he spent the most time with students. During a casual conversation in the Favrot Student Union, Colon thanked everyone for such a warm welcome, and “for making me feel like GramFam in such a short time.”

Tech choir concert set for Tuesday

One orchestra, three choirs and four soloists will combine to perform a signature event celebrating the 25th anniversary of Louisiana Tech University’s School of Performing Arts.
The Louisiana Tech University Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, North Central Masterworks Chorus and Chamber Orchestra will all perform May 13 in Howard Auditorium.
“This concert is the grand culmination of the entire year of these wonderful and talented young musicians here at Tech,” said John Petzet, director of choral activities. “They have spent the last seven weeks preparing these masterful pieces.”

Ben Bleich enters 2nd district judge’s race

Second Judicial District Assistant District Attorney Ben Bleich announced recently that he is officially entering the race for District Judge for the 2nd Judicial District, Division “A” in Claiborne Parish. The district includes the parishes of Jackson, Bienville, and his home parish, Claiborne.

Miss. Woman charged with fraud

A Mississippi woman remains in the Lincoln Parish Detention Center today charged with one each of unauthorized use of an access card as theft and illegal transmission of monetary funds stemming from use of checks and credit cards stolen in Ruston a year ago.
Police say Kizzetta Nicole McClendon, 35, of Forest, Miss., stole a purse at a local business in May 2013, and later used checks and credit cards that were in the purse at businesses in Mississippi.
