Local honored for contributions

A home built with love is something residents used to look for when purchasing a new home.
And Don Love, a local homebuilder, developer and interior designer, was typically the man for the job.
Love was honored at the Rotary International of Ruston meeting on Wednesday. Family members and long-time friends were on hand to say a few words about the man who contributed 24 subdivisions and 600 homes in Ruston in his 31 years of business.
Jay Melancon, a fellow Rotarian, said Love was influenced by his father-in-law to become
a homebuilder.

Stabbing at gas station

A Ruston man was arrested Wednesday night after allegedly stabbing a man at the EZ Mart on California Avenue.
According to the arrest affidavit, Ruston Police Department officers were dispatched to the store in reference to a stabbing and, upon arrival, observed the victim inside the store bleeding from his head and arm.
Officers also reported a large quantity of blood outside and inside the store.

Library goes into executive session

The Board of Control of the Lincoln Parish Library held a special-called meeting on Wednesday.
During the meeting the board immediately went into executive session to discuss a personnel issue.
Once the executive session ended the board adjourned the meeting. No official action was taken at the time of the meeting.

Serio selected as National Merit Scholar

Ben Serio, a senior at Ruston High School, has been selected as one of 1,000 National Merit Scholarship recipients throughout the country.
Ben was chosen out of 16,000 candidates to compete in the final rounds in February and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) released
the names of the first group of winners on Tuesday.
In the 59th annual program distinguished high school seniors win corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship awards financed by about 200 corporations, company foundations and other business organizations.

Boothe, Dowling to exchange vows

Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Boothe, of Sherman, Texas, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Courtney Rae Boothe, of Sherman, Texas, to Lamar Humphries Dowling, of Ruston.

Courtney is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Baron Phillips and the late Mr. and Mrs. Earl Boothe.

Wilburn, Carnahan to wed

Daniel and Kimber Wilburn, of Pineville, are pleased to announce the engagement and approaching wedding of their daughter Payton Danielle Wilburn to Kyle Evans Carnahan.

Payton is the granddaughter of Beau and Jo Colle, Don Wilburn and Delma Clark.

Kyle is the son of Kevin Carnahan, of Conroe, Texas, and the late Sandy Evans. He is the grandson of Ned Carnahan, the late Jean Carnahan, Hank Evans and the late Pat Evans.

Payton is 2009 graduate of Pineville High School and a 2013 summa cum laude graduate of Louisiana Tech University.

Tim and Michele Brown, of Dubach, and Darrell and Tonia Jenkins, of Haughton, are proud to announce the engagement of their daughter Haley Jenkins, of Dubach, to Bradley Caraway, of Ruston.

Haley is the granddaughter of Bill Simms, of Simsboro, the late Donna Simms, Ruth Graham, of Clay, Elizabeth Brown, of Dubach, the late Lavon Brown, Steve and Barbara Watts, of Arcadia, Hazel Watts, of Arcadia, and the late Estill Watts.

Dubach School: DRABO art show drawing near

The Dubach Art Show and Silent Auction, “Art Rocks!,” will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 10.The Dubach Restoration and Beautification Organization (DRABO) will sell $5 plate lunches that include chicken salad, chips and a drink. Cakes and cupcakes will be sold for dessert. Proceeds from cupcake sales will go to the Dubach Art Department. The art show will showcase individual student art work, note cards for purchase featuring student artwork, unique furniture pieces for auction and artwork to be raffled off.

RHS rallies up RES pep, test prep

Ruston Elementary would like to give a big thank you to the Ruston High cheerleaders and football players. They came to our school and helped us get pumped up and ready for the test! The students and teachers enjoyed the skit, games and chants that they taught us! We know that we were ready for the test after that pep rally!
