Bearcats football banquet tickets currently on sale

in

Tickets for the annual Ruston High School football banquet are on sale and can be purchased from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. this week from Virginia Rainwater in the RHS athletics office.
The tickets will be on sale through Friday and must be bought in advance — no tickets will be sold at the door.
Ticket cost is $20 each.
The annual Ruston High School football banquet, sponsored by the Ruston High School Booster Club, will be held at 6 p.m. Monday in the Louisiana Tech Student Center.

Rotary names January students of the month

The Ruston Rotary Club proudly announces the recipients of the January Student of the Month Awards. Each student honoree spoke to the club members about their achievements at the Jan. 15 luncheon and was then presented an award of achievement with concluding remarks provided by Rotary President Angie Biscomb. Each awardee has maintained a minimum GPA of 3.5 and been active in extra-curricular activities and leadership roles on their respective school campus.

Sixth graders excel at reading, complete DARE

Sixth graders at Choudrant Elementary School are soaring into the fourth sixth weeks of school. They are reading abundantly using Accelerated Reader and the common core approach to reach their required points and percentiles.
DARE
The sixth graders have finished their DARE program presented by Deputy Phil Soileau and have graduated. They are proud of the DARE school-color shirts and the certificates of achievement they received.

Driver hits, kills walker on California

At approximately 1:13 a.m. today, Ruston Police Department responded to a call on West California Avenue in front of Forest Lawn Cemetery for a reported pedestrian crash.
RPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Clint Williams said upon arrival, officers discovered that a white male had been walking westbound along the westbound lane of West California Avenue.

Gaines spreads golden knowledge

Three-time Olympic swimming gold medalist Rowdy Gaines remembers what junior high school, and the feeling of being an underdog was like.
And now Gaines is working to spread some of his golden knowledge and experience to today’s youth.
Gaines appeared at Ruston Junior High School Wednesday to talk to students there about his experiences and things he had to overcome to become an Olympic gold medalist and world record holder.

LPNET agents nabs two for distribution

The Lincoln Parish Narcotics Enforcement Team arrested two men on distribution charges Wednesday.
Brian Christopher Bourgeois II, 24, of 201 W. Arizona Ave., No. 4., was arrested at 4:37 a.m. Tuesday at his residence.
LPNET agents served a search warrant at the residence and upon entry agents reportedly made contact with Bourgeois. He was advised of his rights per Miranda and detained while the search was conducted.

Snow sentencing pushed to March

Although an arrest was made in December for the $50,000-plus stolen from the Louisiana Tech University athletic department, no sentencing has been done.
Randal Chance Snow, 25, from 147 Highway 3061, was originally arrested Aug. 9, 2012 by Tech police for theft over $500.
According to the affidavit, a warrant was served to Snow for the charge of theft over $500, specifically $2,760, the property of Louisiana Tech University.
Les Guice, president of Louisiana Tech as well as Bob Levy, District Attorney, confirmed that Snow is the person who allegedly stole $50,891.
