Sealed bids will be received in the Office of the Superintendent at the Lincoln Parish School Board Office, 410 South Farmerville Street, Ruston, LA until 10:00 a.m., on July 3, 2014 at which time bids will be opened and read aloud for the following surplus buses.

Bid forms may be obtained from the Lincoln Parish School Board Office, 410 South Farmerville Street, Ruston, LA during the hours of 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday - Thursday and 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Friday.

Alton R. Ragland

A memorial service will be held for Alton R. Ragland, 78, at 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Ruston.  Alton passed away at his home in Dubach, LA on Thursday, June 5, 2014.Alton was born April 8, 1936 to Percy and Mae Ragland in Lake Providence.  He graduated for Lake Providence High School in 1954 and he served in the Marines.

Mr. Hugh C. Durham

A memorial service for Mr. Hugh C. Durham, IV, age 51 of Ruston, will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, June 9, 2014 at The Ruston Country Club. Services are under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

‘Sons of Guns’ stars hold event to benefit Ruston’s SWAT

Will Hayden, star of Discovery Channel’s “Sons of Guns” and founder of Red Jacket Firearms, brought the heat to north Louisiana on Saturday to help raise funds for the Ruston Police Department.
The 12th annual Red Jacket Birthday Bash took place in Simsboro and offered fans of the show, and of firearms, an opportunity to shoot weapons that may not be available to them.
“Its an opportunity for us to get to meet people that have been supporting us,” Hayden said. “It’s a chance to put a face to a name and tell them ‘thank you.’”

LPPJ to meet Tuesday

Jury, HELP to receive audits

The 2013 audit report will be given in the Lincoln Parish Police Jury’s regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday. 
A presentation will be given by CPA David Hartt, but prior to that, the Personnel/Benefits Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. to review and recommend people to fill vacancies on the Waterworks District No. 1 and the Lincoln Parish Communications District.
The regular meeting will follow with the announcement of an appointment to Waterworks District No. 2, followed by Hartt’s report.

Tech campus, facilities set to become tobacco-free

Effective Aug. 1, Louisiana Tech University’s campus, instructional sites and facilities will become tobacco-free in accordance with Act 211 of the 2013 Louisiana State Legislative session which directs all public post-secondary educational institutions to develop smoke-free and/or tobacco-free policies for its campuses.

Cultural district could help UP development

The manager of a state program to promote cultural arts in Louisiana said a classic example of unintended benefits of the program can be found in Farmerville.
In 2007, the Louisiana Legislature created the Cultural District program for communities to promote the state’s visual arts. One facet of the program is tax credits available to both residential and commercial property owners who do work to preserve older, historic buildings within the districts.
Program manager Gaye Hamilton said she learned an example of interest in the tax credits exists in Farmerville.

NE Delta HSA receives highest level accreditation

CARF International announced that Northeast Delta Human Services Authority (NE Delta HSA) has been accredited for a period of three years, its longest-running accreditation, for the following programs:
• Intensive Outpatient Program for Alcohol and Other Drugs (Adults).
• Outpatient Program for Alcohol and Other Drugs (Adults).
• Outpatient Program for Mental Health (Adults).
• Outpatient Program for Alcohol and Other Drugs (Children/Adolescents).
• Outpatient Program for Mental Health (Children/Adolescents).

McKinney lends help to LPSO

The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s office is thankful to McKinney Honda and Kawasaki for supplying their Community Service Division with a Kawasaki mule. The mule will be used for the Senior Expo and the holiday patrols during Thanksgiving and Christmas. The mule will also be used during the Louisiana Peach Festival parade and other events. The mule will be used to search for lost people and other emergency operations. LPSO said programs like this help them to better serve the citizens of Lincoln Parish.
