Celebrating the mass will be Rev. Frank Folino, O.F.M. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

RPD thwarts robbery attempt

The willingness of an alert passer-by to make a 9-1-1 telephone call enabled law enforcement officers to quickly apprehend two suspects in a weekend armed robbery, Ruston Police Chief Steve Rogers said this morning.
Timothy Gray, 22, of 502 Jackson Ave., and Jamarcus Elmore, 20, of 305 Jack Anding, both in Ruston, face two counts each of armed robbery in connection with an incident late Saturday evening at the Citgo service station at 504 South Vienna St. Both men are also charged with resisting an officer by fleeing.

Comic Book Hero Turns 75

Teens celebrate Batman’s birthday

The Lincoln Parish Library held a special celebration for Batman’s75th birthday at 4 p.m. Saturday in the LPL’s community room.
Youth came to view paraphernalia, books, videos, apparel and other collectible items. Activities offered were Batman trivia and a costume contest and attendees enjoyed a bat-shaped cake. Pictured right is Mary Claire McFadden, who participated in the costume contest.

Millsap joins Team USA

Former Bulldog to play for hoops World Cup

After producing an All-Star season in his first year with the Atlanta Hawks, former Louisiana Tech great Paul Millsap has received an invitation to join the Team USA basketball roster, it was announced Sunday by USAB officials.
Millsap’s addition takes the number of senior players in camp under Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski to 19. Of those 19, he will attempt to claim a spot on the final 12-man roster which will represent their country at the inaugural FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain starting Aug. 30.

It’s designed as a free baseball clinic to teach area youth fundamental skills about the sport.
But the fifth annual Wilbert Ellis Baseball Camp, held Saturday at Ruston’s Fraser Field, was much more about teaching the game of life.

Creek starts camps

Cedar Creeks School’s football camps start today with the Hawg Wild Camp for sixth-12th grade linemen and the Elementary All-Star Camp for first-fifth graders.
The Playmakers Skills position camp for will be held Wednesday and Thursday.

Any North Louisiana football fan with a smidgen of knowledge about the history of high school programs should know the significance of that nickname.
As in Alton “Red” Franklin, the former top braintrust at Haynesville High School.
Franklin will be inducted in the Ark-La-Tex Sports Museum of Champions at 7 p.m. Satruday in the Shreveport Convention Center.
