Funeral services for John Calvin Calhoun, age 73, of Dubach will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, January 27, 2014 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Rev. Connie Smith. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Calhoun under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Mr. Calhoun was born January 31, 1940 and passed away January 23, 2014. He is preceded in death by his son, Carl Calhoun and parents, Make and Jewel Calhoun.

Committal services will follow in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Deville under the guidance of White Oaks Funeral Home, Alexandria. Daniel, 32, of Ruston, entered eternal rest on Thursday, January 23, 2014. He was born January 23, 1982 to the union of Terrell Allen and Linda Kilpatrick Stafford in Alexandria. He graduated in 2001 from Buckeye High School in Deville.

Tech takes it to Marshall

The Bulldogs were short-handed Saturday night with Raheem Appleby still out with an ankle injury and Michale Kyser suspended after being ejected from Louisiana Tech’s Thursday’s night win over Charlotte with two flagrant fouls.
But that didn’t slow the Bulldogs, who had a big sixth-man in the form of a boisterous crowd of 7,355 as Tech raced to a 98-77 win over Marshall at the Thomas Assembly.

Lady Techsters topped at Tulane

NEW ORLEANS — Tulane built an 18-point second half lead and then held off a late Louisiana Tech rally as the Green Wave defeated the Lady Techsters 75-61 Saturday afternoon at Devlin Fieldhouse.
Tulane (14-5, 5-1 Conference USA) took a 35-26 halftime lead and pushed it out to 18 at 57-39 with 11:17 to play in the game before Lulu Perry and Whitney Frazier spearheaded a Lady Techster rally.

Lady Tigers win, GMen fall Saturday at Jackson State

Victoya Ricks (00, pictured above left) poured in 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds while Joanna Miller added 15 points to lead the Grambling State Lady Tigers to a 79-68 win at Jackson State on Saturday. GSU is now 7-11 overall and 3-3 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. In men’s action, Thomas Chandler topped the GMen with 13 points and eight rebounds while Antwan Scott (5, pictured above right) added nine points for GSU, which 76-59 to Jackson State. Grambling is now 1-15 overall and 0-7 in the SWAC.

Kyle Williams has made a living playing like a superstar but never really getting quite the recognition he deserves.
He’s battled through injuries to remain one of the NFL’s top defensive lineman, as he’ll showcase tonight as a member of Team Rice as the NFL holds its annual Pro Bowl in Honolulu.
Williams and fellow Pro Bowler Marcell Dareus formed one of the best defensive tackle pairings this past season for the Buffalo Bills.

Gift in support of new Tech Engineering, Science facility

Faculty and staff from Louisiana Tech University and Dow Chemical Company were excited to announce the donation of $1 million at a press conference in University Hall Saturday.
The generous gift from the Dow Company Foundation is in support of the university’s campaign to construct a new Integrated Engineering and Science Education Building, which will expand classroom, laboratory and faculty office space for the College of Engineering and Science.
