Scott’s opens new location

The Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon cutting at Scott’s Catfish Express. Customers can dine-in, carry-out or drive-thru. Ruston native Robbins joins Angus institute

During the seventh-annual Beef Leaders Institute (BLI), Lee Robbins, of Ruston, experienced all aspects of the beef industry — from feedlot to retailer. Ruston joined a group of 20 Angus enthusiasts from 16 states who participated in this year’s BLI, held June 23-26 by the American Angus Association®.

No slowing down for Davis

Ruston Daily Leader Executive Sports Editor O.K. “Buddy” Davis has championed many an Ark-La-Tex athlete during his 50-plus years as a sports writer.
Now Davis is about to become an Ark-La-Tex champion himself.
Davis will be joined by A.L. Williams, Ralph “Road Runner” Garr, Kim Mulkey, Billy Jack Talton and Alton “Red” Franklin as they will be inducted to the Ark-La-Tex Sports Museum of Champions at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Shreveport Convention Center.

Tech sets cross country slate

Mook 5 home meet to open 2014 schedule

Louisiana Tech head coach Gary Stanley announced the program’s 2014 cross country schedule last week with Tech hosting the annual Mook 5 race to open the season.
In all the 2014 slate includes five regular season races followed by the Conference USA Championships on Nov. 3 in Houston, hosted by Rice.
The season will open in Ruston on Sept. 20 as Tech will host the annual Mook 5 races for the men and women before heading south on Sept. 27 to run at the McNeese Cowboy Stampede in Lake Charles.

Parish has star-filled group for Ark-La-Tex event

Here’s a scoop for anyone gathering information about Kim Mulkey:
There’s actually a Hall of Fame awards’ ceremony that isn’t included on her lengthy list of achievements.
Well, not just yet.
But this time next week, you can add on that honor, too.
Mulkey will be one of the honorees at the 2014 Ark-La-Tex Museum of Champions to be held at the Shreveport Convention Center on Saturday beginning at 7 p.m.
It will be the ninth different “Hall” or shrine award bestowed upon the head women’s basketball coach at Baylor University.

Uhl brings sporting magazines to life

My fishing trip to Nebraska accomplished several things. I got to catch a bunch of fish, species I’d never caught, I got to sample just how delicious walleye filets are, and I got to meet and fish with Brad Uhl.
Uhl, from Tulsa, is publisher and editor of two outstanding fishing magazines, Bassin’ and Crappie World. In 2012, Uhl bit the bullet and purchased these two magazines and is in the process of making them work into a couple of the nation’s most popular fishing publications. From information I sniffed out on the Internet, here’s how it all came to be.

AgCenter, Trinity sponsor ‘Kids in the Kitchen’

The LSU AgCenter and Trinity United Methodist Church recently sponsored a three-day “Kids in the Kitchen” workshop.
Cathy Judd, area nutrition agent with the LSU AgCenter, said students who participated in the workshop this summer got hands-on learning experience from guest speaker Eric Brazzel, public education officer with the Ruston Fire Department.

What’s your fragrance: Foul or Fair?

In the earliest pages of scripture, we learn how God created the heavens and the earth, crafting with limitless creativity all the beauty and diversity we see on earth. But the crown of God’s creation was when He made man and woman. In Genesis 1:27, we read that “God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” We were created in God’s image, reflecting the Trinity in our being — body, mind, soul. Yet there are more ways in which people reflect the attributes of God.
