THE LINCOLN Parish Police Jury met in regular session on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at 7:00 p.m., at its regular meeting place in the Courthouse, Ruston, Louisiana. Present were: Hazel D. Challenge boosts vet funds

This Memorial Day, while some will be grilling burgers in their backyards or enjoying a weekend away, there will be a special group at Crossfit Ruston, honoring one of those who has fallen in action. The Murph Challenge — also referred to as the MURPH — is a national challenge and fundraising event for the Lt Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation.

The North Central Louisiana Arts Council invites area artists of all ages to participate in the 27th Annual Peach Festival Art Exhibit June 23-28 at the Ruston Civic Center. 
Cash and ribbon awards will be given in all categories, as well as an Adult Best of Show award, and a Youth Best in Show award. Adult artists may participate in five different categories: drawing, painting, photography, original crafts and miscellaneous. Youth artists may participate in one of three age-based categories: 9 and under, 10 to 13 and 14 to 17.

Fire damages residence

Firefighters ventilate smoke on McAllister

An early morning fire today resulted in minor damage to the porch and living room of a residence located at 1401 McAllister, Lot 6.
Units from Lincoln Parish Fire Protection District No. 1 arrived at the scene at 12:25 a.m. to find that a small fire had already been extinguished, according to the incident report. Firefighters ventilated the smoke from the residence.
The occupant of the residence was evaluated for smoke inhalation. There were no other injuries reported.
