Calvary kids donate items to help local babies

The staff at Life Choices of North Central Louisiana is thankful to the kids of Calvary Baptist Church for their donation of diapers, wipes and other baby-related items. The children’s group chose Life Choices as one of several organizations to serve during their Children’s Ministry Mission Impact Week.

Bird migration lecture set for June 24 at LPL

The Lincoln Parish Library will host “Freedom of Flight: Bird Migration and Navigation” presented by Timothy Keyes at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Library Events Center.
Birds have a remarkable homing instinct, allowing them to return to the same area year after year, even when their migration takes them halfway around the world. In North America, most bird species migrate to some extent, with more than 350 species traveling to the tropics each fall.

Summer raises skin’s risks

While summer doesn’t officially begin until Saturday, temperatures have been steady in the 80s and 90s for the past few weeks.
The warm weather has many people hitting the beach, heading out to the garden or enjoying a variety of other outdoor activities. While many people enjoy the tanned skin that comes along with these activities, the truth is tanned skin is not healthy.

Overlay makes everybody happy

You have to hand it to Ruston’s Board of Aldermen. It’s reached a success level that few, if any, public bodies ever attain. On June 2, the board of aldermen made everybody happy.
That’s the night the board unanimously approved the city’s first neighborhood conservation overlay district. The historic vote came after the board also unanimously agreed to remove from the plan one street that’s on the edge of the new district.
Suddenly — well, maybe not so suddenly — both supporters of and challengers to the original plan were happy.

LSP: Road rage incident results in assault arrest

A Ruston man was arrested after allegedly pointing a gun at another motorist on Interstate 20 in Ouachita Parish.
On Monday, Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F arrested 56-year-old James Robinson, of Ruston, for aggravated assault following an alleged road rage incident.
Around 8:45 a.m., Troop F received a phone call from a motorist traveling east on Interstate 20 near the Cheniere Drew exit. The motorist called to tell troopers that she was involved in a road rage incident and the other motorist reportedly pointed a gun at her.

The Lincoln Parish Sheriff's Office, 100 West Texas Avenue, Ruston, LA 71270 (P.O. Box 2070, Ruston, LA 71273) is requesting proposals for Landscaping and Irrigation System Services.
The due date for proposals is Tuesday, June 24, 2014 until 1:00 p.m. CST. Proposals received after this deadline will not be considered.
