With the opening of its new facility, the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office has launched a new website and application for smartphones.
Public Information Officer Chad Alexander is directing residents to visit www.lincolnparish.org and selecting the link for sheriff.
“This will route the viewer to the newly designed website for the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office,” he said. “There is more work to be carried out on the inmate portion of the website, however, persons can see arrest data.”

Guerriero out of race for La. Congress

in

Former 5th District congressional hopeful Jeff Guerriero has dropped out of the political race, tapering the number of candidates for the seat down to nine.
In a statement Guerriero released to KTVE/KARD, he said, “I did withdraw earlier this week. I found out that I would have to essentially close my law practice and sports agency. This would mean that I would have to terminate over 20 quality employees. I just can’t do that.

Local motorists will have to detour around portions of Goodwin Road and Reynolds Drive a while longer, but officials say the reconstruction project underway at the streets’ intersection will result in a smoother, safer traffic flow.
“It’s going to make the roadway safer just west of the intersection,” City Administrator Ed Pittman said about the work that will include installing separate turn lanes for north- and south-bound traffic.

Proposed ordinance may eliminate all-day free parking in some areas

Parking in downtown Ruston will change under terms of a proposed ordinance that the city’s board of aldermen will be asked to introduce Monday evening.
The proposal is one of several items on the agenda for the board’s 5:30 p.m. meeting at City Hall.
Aldermen will also be asked to give final passage of the Ruston’s proposed $55 million budget for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1, as well as to make changes in the city’s Section 8 housing program.

Good things come to ‘roads’ who wait

Next time you drive down Goodwin Road and suddenly realize you’ve got to detour around a sizeable construction project at the Reynolds Drive intersection, remember the old adage “Good things come to those who wait.”
Late last year, the city began the initial phase of the $1.6 million project that, when complete, will make one of the most heavily trafficked areas in north Ruston safer and easier for motorists to maneuver.

Arming 2nd amendment rights

Bleich, Joe C.jpg

The Second Amendment follows the First. Sounds silly? Maybe to most, but I don’t think the national news media is aware. (Excluded are journalists “afflicted” with common sense.) It’s toward the top for a reason.

Turns out Texas ain’t so bad

in
DeGrie, Elizabeth 2014.jpg

For most of the past week I’ve been suffering from post travel depression.
I’d like to say that’s a made up thing, but from my own life experiences, I promise it isn’t.
By timing things correctly, I was able to enjoy a 10-day break from work during which my husband and I visited our best friend Blaine (a name regular readers have seen before) in San Antonio, Texas. As often happens in a college town, most of our friends have moved away at this point to various locales.

School support a good place to start

Cox-Boniol mug.jpg

Last month my husband returned from two grueling months on the road. For the first time, Tom was driving for a “core metal” band as it crisscrossed North America for the Mayhem Festival Tour. This was quite a challenge for a man who tends to gravitate toward classic rock from the 1960s and 70s, along with a healthy dose of Elvis on Sirius radio each day. The outrageousness of the entire experience definitely tested him, and I’ve been entertained royally with tales from the road.
