Napper elected as treasurer of LACVB

Travis Napper, President/CEO of the Ruston Lincoln Parish Convention and Visitors Bureau was, installed as Treasurer of the Louisiana Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus (LACVB) Board of Directors during the association’s January meeting in Jennings.

Students present holiday musicals, visit with Santa

Kindergarten
The kindergartners at Glen View had a very eventful December!
The Junior Auxiliary of Ruston came to Glen View to read a story to the kindergartners and they also brought a special guest — Santa!
The children were so surprised and delighted to see Santa at their school. Santa greeted each child and each kindergartner left with a book and a homemade gingerbread cookie.

Principal’s List (4.0 GPA)

Bearcats take the stage at elementary schools

Ruston High School’s Speech II and Speech III drama students recently collaborated to prepare materials in order to present plays they adapted from popular children’s books to area elementary students. The RHS students did everything from cutting up cardboard boxes and making stage props to learning crayon and African dance moves in order to make the productions a success.

CHS Honor Roll

Chameleon crawl, fun run set

The Montessori School of Ruston is proud to host their first ever Montessori Chameleon Crawl 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk at Lincoln Parish Park on March 1.
Registration/Sign-In on March 1 is from 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m., race begins at 9 a.m.
This event is open to men, women and children. The race is being timed by Tri Running in Ruston.
Pre-registration is open until Feb. 26 at Tri Running, Active.com or the Montessori School of Ruston (participants registered before Feb. 15 receive a race T-shirt). The 5K Race Fee is $25 ($30 after Feb. 15), 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk $15 ($20 after Feb. 15)

I just read a quotation from Abraham Lincoln that I never remember seeing before, but found it well worth repeating: Now I can’t remember it. Happens to old folks like me, but that’s all right, I’ll think of it when I wake up at two in the morning. It’s all relative, folks.
Have to share this joke sent to me by Nita Nell (Huey) Watson, who lives in San Marcos, Texas, but grew up in Ruston. It’s a Baptist joke, but all of you may laugh:

Locals prepare for radiothon

North Louisiana’s 33rd annual St. Jude Radiothon is set for Feb. 10-11, and volunteers met recently in a planning session at Ruston’s Super 1 Foods, where the event will be held. The radiothon is sponsored by radio station Z107.5 and the Zeta Rho chapter of the philanthropic group Epsilon Sigma Alpha. Assembled are Mary Poe (left), Z107.5 public service director; Chris Turner, store director; and Alice Byrnes, radiothon co-chair. Six large donor incentives will be offered during the two days, including a duck call autographed by Phil Robertson of TV’s “Duck Dynasty.”

AAUW hold meeting

The American Association of University Women (AAUW), North Louisiana Branch, had its monthly meeting on January 22, 2014, at the First National Bank.
Terrie Q. Autrey, one of the founders of the Domestic Abuse Resistance Team (DART), was the speaker for the evening.
She told everyone about the different kinds of domestic violence and what others can do to help.
President Mildred Gallot said AAUW meets monthly and other women are welcome to become a part of this organization. There are meetings on the local, state and national levels; this is the only branch in north Louisiana.
