Enjoy spring in Lincoln Parish

With the smell of fresh flowers in the air and hopefully the brunt of April showers behind us — spring is here.
With spring comes the time to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air, and what better way than with some fun-filled activities that are sure to spark interest across all spectrums.
Activities such as planting something green, having a picnic at the park, taking a walk or jog outdoors, taking a hike, sitting outside at a café and playing softball are a few among the many pastimes that residents could enjoy here locally.

April is Keep America Beautiful Month. It’s also National Pecan Month, National Welding Month and International Guitar Month. Who knew?
Although I can get down with pecans and guitars, I don’t know much about welding and keeping our country beautiful seems like a task where any and everyone could get on board.
America is beautiful — truly — at least on the outside.

Three GSU students win scholarships

GRAMBLING — Three mass communication majors, all from the Houston area, receive $2,000 scholarships from the Advertising Education Foundation of Houston, making Grambling State University proud
E’Vonne Gipson, Ninfa Saavedra and Tierra Smith — all junior mass communication majors — were chosen from a pool of more than 80 applicants. Only 20 students were selected to receive $2,000 scholarships, making it the second consecutive year for Gramblinites to be among the scholarship awardees.

Cedar Creek: Students place at state literary rally

More than half of the Cedar Creek students who attended the State Literary Rally in Baton Rouge recently placed in top spots in their academic and musical competitions.
Thirty students were invited to attend the event after being named the Division IV winner for the North Louisiana High School Rally in March. 
Finishing first at state were Erik Eklund (physics), Logan Kent (physical science), Sarfraz Ahmed (geometry), Mary Tyler Storms (French II) and Ethan Hunt (English I).

Ruston Freshman Academy: Freshmen take a holiday to bowl

Ruston High School’s Freshman Academy once again teamed up with Lincoln ACHIEVE to treat students who maintained the expected code of conduct with no disciplinary or behavioral infractions.  Staff welcomed 116 RHS freshman to Holiday Lanes in Bossier City, LA, for a fun morning of neon-glow bowling, arcade games, and more. Carlos Jenkins and Enija Brantley (top) tie their laces while Tyler Nallit (bottom) gets set.

FNB holds budgeting workshop for BGCNCLA

First National Bank held a Budget 101 workshop for approximately 25 employees of the Boys and Girls Club of North Central Louisiana on April 4. The purpose of this workshop was to give these young adults an opportunity to not only learn about the financial responsibility that comes with student loans, credit card offers and lease signings, but also the fundamentals about wise money management.

Sealed bids will be accepted until 10:00 a.m. on May 6, 2014, at which time the bids will be opened and the highest bidder will be awarded the computer(s).
