Joe Woods a wild success

At 6 p.m Saturday, the Dixie Center for the Arts brings back to life the annual Joe Woods Wildwoods Express Showcase.
A revival of a popular showcase put on by Joe Woods during the mid-70s through the mid-80s, this event offers residents a chance to hear some great talent and help keep the Dixie afloat.
Mary Ann Woods, wife of the late Joe Woods, said keeping the Dixie in great shape is a big job, and something her late husband was passionate about.

Having a love for indie films

I love movies. Independent movies especially. There is something inspiring about a person creating such an expensive thing as a movie from his own pocket.
Now, calm down. This is not some hipster manifesto as to why independent movies are so much better than Marvel comic movies or sci-fi blockbusters. Those types of movies have a lot to offer, just in different ways.
The independent movie scene, however, is a strikingly important part of the film business.

Healthy results take consistency

For many people working out is something they decide to do sporadically and without much thought.
With the mindset of “Oh, I ate that huge piece of cake, I need to go to the gym and get on the elliptical for an hour,” many results are not seen.
Oftentimes people are inconsistent with their workout regimes and do not pay much attention to the foods they are consuming — not knowing this plays a large role in a person’s overall health.

NCLAC excited for summer camps

NCLAC is excited for the upcoming summer months, because summer equals art camps!
For more than 20 years we have been offering art camps in our region, with talented teachers and interesting projects. This year we have three camps scheduled: Ruston 1, June 23-27; Jonesboro, July 7-11; and Ruston 2, July 14-18.

Junior Auxiliary celebrates service in April

The hard work goes on year-round, but during the first week of April each year, the Junior Auxiliary of Ruston pauses to say thanks to the community for another great year.
A year packed with service to families and children through 14 service projects that include everything from Christmas Clearing House, Dinner and a Movie, Color Happy, Junior Chef, Methodist Children’s Home Girl’s Camp, MCH Birthday Club, MCH Christmas Party, Lincoln Parish Schools Writing Contest, Hurricane Relief, Preschool Puppets, School Enrichment, Provisional Project, Helping Hearts to Visit with St. Nick.
