Tech golf to open spring season today in Texas

Louisiana Tech’s golf team was slated to open the spring season today in San Antonio, Texas as the Bulldogs face five top-75 opponents at the University of Texas-San Antonio’s Oak Hills Invitational.
That tournament, hosted at the Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, will open a challenging spring season filled with six regular season tournaments with the goal of moving up high enough in the rankings to enter the discussion for an at-large bid to the NCAA Regionals.

GSU teams at home tonight against Alcorn State

Grambling State University’s basketball teams will be at home tonight for a doubleheader against Alcorn State. The women’s game will start at 5:30 p.m. while men’s action will follow around 7:30 p.m. Jasmine Godbolt (34, top) and the Lady Tigers stand at 8-13 overall and 3-5 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference while Terry Rose (bottom photo) and the Tigers stand at 1-18 overall and 0-10 in the SWAC.

Local officers decrease crime

In 2013, law enforcement officers in Ruston and Lincoln Parish responded accordingly to make necessary arrests for the safety and protection of our home.
For the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office, it was reported that deputies made a total of 2,134 arrests. Of those arrests, deputies were successful in making 97 theft arrests and 75 burglary arrests.
These numbers indicate the job well done when it comes to finding who has committed a crime against one of its own people.

Lincoln in for a wintery event

Be careful what you wish for.
Lincoln Parish may get a big taste of that old adage over the next 48 hours.
While Old Man Winter and Mother Nature have waltzed more than seemingly ever before in central and south Louisiana in recent weeks, they’ve only tiptoed through Lincoln Parish.
That could soon change.
The National Weather Service Office in Shreveport as issued a winter weather advisory for all of our area through 6 a.m. Wednesday, and that will likely be extended into at least Wednesday afternoon if predictions hold true.

Long time Ruston resident, Joanna Steed, passed away on Friday evening, February 7, 2014 at her home surrounded by family. Visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Pines Memorial Gardens in Ruston under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.

Edward Pittman, Jr

Edward Pittman, Jr., 76, of Ruston, LA, died Saturday. Mr. Pittman was born on June 10, 1937, to the late Edward and Clotile Pittman, in Natchitoches, LA, and is a graduate of Dubberly High School. He married his high school sweetheart Kathleen DeLoach Pittman in 1961 and worked more than 40 years for T.L. James & Company. He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters Shirley Smiley and Juanita Strickland.

Mr. George Wallace Pilgreen

Funeral services for Mr. George Wallace Pilgreen, age 74 of Dubach, will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, February 10, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Dubach. Officiating the service will be Rev. M.F. Copeland. Burial will follow in Hamilton Cemetery in Dubach under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr.Pilgreen was born February 2, 1940 in Vienna to Wallace Pilgreen and Maggie Scott Pilgreen. He died at his home in Dubach February 7, 2014. Mr. Pilgreen was a carptenter by trade and a member of First Baptist Church of Dubach.

LINCOLN PARISH Waterworks District #

LINCOLN PARISH Waterworks District # 3 of Ruston, Louisiana met in a regular meeting on this date. The commissioner's present was, Mr. Jack Allen president, Mr. Randy Snow, Mr. Ralph McVay, Mr. G.W. Kimble and Mr. Willard Anderson. Also present was Mr. Chris Harris, manager.
Mr. Allen opened the meeting with prayer. Mr. Allen presented the agenda for adoption. There were no changes to be made. Mr. Snow made a motion to adopt the agenda as printed, Mr. Anderson seconded the motion and it was carried.
