Tech teams to hit road

After going 1-1 last weekend and notching its first conference victory in three years, Louisiana Tech returns to the road as the Lady Techsters travel to face East Carolina at 6 p.m. today at Williams Arena in Greenville, N.C.
Last weekend, the Lady Techsters snapped a 34-match conference losing streak that dated back to 2010 with a 3-1 victory over Charlotte last Friday night on the road.
The Louisiana Tech tennis team looks to continue their fall season success this weekend as they compete in the Lady Demon Invitational on Oct. hosted by Northwestern State today and Saturday.

Lincoln Parish prepared for disaster

If we watch the news, we see that bad things happen all over the country — sometimes when they are least expected. There is always a crisis going on around the country, and we rely on the first responders to see that the situations are managed.
Ruston is not a hot bed for disastrous activity, but if anything ever happened; such as, a train derailment, large storm or even a terrorist attack Lincoln Parish would be prepared.
Earlier this month Lincoln Parish first responders came together to attend National Incident Management Systems classes.

Cooler weather is finally upon us. It never seems to fail that this is the time of year when we get loads of dreary rainy days, so it only seems fitting to let Maya Angelou speak. While I was perusing the Internet recently I came across a blog on the Huffington Post’s website titled “25 Things Every Woman Should Know.”

One of the greatest novelists of our generation has passed away. Tom Clancy died Oct. 1 at the age of 66.
Clancy’s found success quickly; his first novel, “The Hunt for Red October,” earned the praise of President Ronald Reagan.
Of the 26 novels he wrote, 17 of them reached No. 1 on the New York Times Best Sellers list. The last novel he wrote, “Command Authority,” will be released on Dec. 3.

David Lee Ficklin

Funeral services for David Lee Ficklin, age 67, of Simsboro will be held 2:00PM Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Services will be officiated by Dr. Jason Cole and Dr. Wilton Wall. David was born May 7, 1946, in Galvez, Louisiana and went on his final mission trip to Heaven on October 7, 2013, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He is survived by his wife/best friend of 30 years: Rosemary Loria Ficklin; children: Warren Lynn Alford, Jr.

Mr. David Ford McCloud

Graveside services for Mr. David Ford McCloud, 72 of Bernice, LA, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday October 15, 2013 at Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery, Bernice, Louisiana. Rev. Jeff Hurst and Jerry Watkins will be officiating. Under direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Farmerville, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents David and Faye McCloud and his daughter Misty Lynn McCloud. He is survived by his son, Rex Anthony McCloud and his mother Loretta McCloud, two sisters Linda McCloud and Virginia Elizabeth McCloud Murphey and husband Grafton.

Minutes

THE VILLAGE of Simsboro met in regular session Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 6:15 p.m.
Present were: Mayor Hendricks, Aldermen: Tiffany Cole and Pam Durrett and Doug Durrett. Also in attendance was Victoria Axton from the Ruston Daily Leader.
Alderman Pam Durrett voiced the prayer and Mayor Hendricks led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mayor Hendricks presented the agenda. A motion was made by Alderman Pam Durrett and second by Alderman Tiffany Cole to adopt the agenda as presented. Motion passed.
