Raising Cane’s invites customers in Ruston to help feed hungry kids

BATON ROUGE — Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers announced it will once again participate in Share Our Strength’s Dine Out For No Kid Hungry™ campaign to end childhood hunger in America. Raising Cane’s fundraising drive will run today through Saturday at 140 participating restaurants nationwide, including the one in Ruston.

Barham named president of APS

Argent Financial Group, a diversified Southern wealth and financial services firm responsible for more than $6 billion in client assets, recently named Matt Barham president of Argent Property Services (APS), a subsidiary of the firm that provides oil and gas management services.
With a forestry degree from Louisiana Tech University, Barham has worked for Argent Property Services since 2008 and most recently held the position of vice president. Prior to joining the company, Barham was self-employed as a consulting forester.

Coker family thankful for help

On May 24, we said farewell to a very special person; a loving mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother, aunt and friend — Vanna Irene Martin Coker — (April 3, 1916 – May 21, 2014).
We were blessed to have her in our lives for a wonderful 98 years as she continued to show her love to all, impart her wisdom to all who would listen and entertain us with her keen sense of humor.

Davis, Robertson join in holy matrimony

Amanda Carol Davis, of Ruston, and Matthew Philip Robertson, of Ruston, joined in holy matrimony in a 2 p.m. ceremony June 7 at Temple Baptist Church officiated by Casey Williams, of Jackson, Mississippi.

The bride is the daughter of Robert and Ellen Davis, of Ruston. She is the granddaughter of Joyce Davis, of Minden, the late James Davis, the late Gayle Morris and the late Myrtle Morris.

McDonald, Campany wed

Brooks McDonald, of Ruston, and Port Campany, of Collierville, Tennessee, joined in holy matrimony in a 5 p.m. ceremony April 12 on Kelly Green in Alys Beach, Florida. The ceremony was officiated by Len Woods.

The bride is the daughter of Kyle and Tisdale McDonald, of Ruston. She is the granddaughter of A.W. and Diane McDonald, of Stonewall, the late Herschel Knight and the late Susie Jo Knight.

Conway, Holtzclaw unite in marriage

Dannah Conway, of Memphis, Tennessee, and Christopher Holtzclaw, of Arcadia, joined in holy matrimony in a 7 p.m. ceremony June 7 at Creekwood Gardens.

The bride is the daughter of Bobby and Sheri Conway, of Nashville, Tennessee. She is the granddaughter of Quincy and Rebecca Karnes, of Memphis, Tennessee.

The groom is the son of Phil and Becky Holtzclaw, of Arcadia. He is the grandson of Betty Perritt, of Arcadia, the late James “Red” Perritt, and Danny and Maxine Holtzclaw, of Simsboro.

Seeing God in everything great and small

In my second year of seminary, I took a class called Systematic Theology. The course was challenging in many ways, and part of the readings were about creation and God’s care and concern for all of the earth and everything in it.
I have always paid attention to nature and the beauty of the earth, yet I began to listen and look for God within all that God has created including flowers, trees, insects, birds and other creatures in the wild. I became particularly interested in birds and the way they live and behave in their circle of life.

Keron Jackson to give concert

Keron Jackson is a famed singer with an unusual background, a man with a voice as big as his personality. Of course, one would have to either hear him or know him for that to make much sense.  Jackson is a gifted musician who has dedicated his life to serving God through his gifts and talents.
