Funeral services will be held for Caroline Taylor Perritt, age 18, at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Arcadia. Bro. Lamar Skinner and Bro. Allen Jordan will officiate. The interment will follow at Alabama Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday night from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

Caroline, affectionately known as Queenie, was born June 26, 1995, in Minden, LA, to Randall and Leigh Ann Perritt. She entered into rest on April 21, 2014, in Minden, LA. Caroline was a senior at Simsboro High school and was scheduled to graduate on May 22.

Jindal helps welcome new Alpine Guest Care location

Hundreds of balloons were released into a clear, blue Ruston sky on Monday afternoon after the ribbon was cut by several dignitaries including Gov. Bobby Jindal and Ruston Mayor Dan Hollingsworth at the new 70,000-square-foot location for the Alpine skilled nursing facility, located at 2401 N. Service Road East.
After being introduced by Kit Gamble, chairman of the board of Alpine’s parent company Gamble Guest Care, Jindal thanked the Gamble family for their significant contributions to the health care industry in Louisiana.

Neighbors at odds

Robert Street residents contest overlay district

Ruston’s Planning and Zoning Commission will ask the board of aldermen to introduce an ordinance creating the city’s first neighborhood conservation overlay district.
But Monday night’s commission vote in favor of the proposed district came over the objection of Robert Street residents who said they don’t want to be included in the plan.
“If we had seen this overlay when we were considering our move to Ruston, we would not have bought on Robert Street. We would have moved somewhere else,” Richard Maxwell, who moved onto the street just last week, said.

Grove takes step forward

Ruston’s first zero-lot line development is a step closer to reality.
The planning and zoning commission voted Monday night to ask the city’s board of aldermen to approve developer Dicky Nealy’s request to have the approximately five-acre site of his The Grove development rezoned from its current one- and two-family residential designation to a planned unit development.

Bills rise in Dubach

The Dubach Town Council met Monday night to discuss last month’s bills, among other things.
After Mayor Bob Jensen called the meeting to order, the pledge of allegiance and an invocation was said before a motion was made to approve the agenda.
The motion passed unanimously and the council took pause to read the minutes from last month’s meeting.
A motion was made to approve the minutes but before it passed councilman Davie Powell said he was concerned about the amount due being higher than usual.
