RHS team preps for Eco Car race

Under the direction of instructor Randall Elliott, the Ruston High School Eco Car Team is already busy with its design and preparation for the 2014 Shell Eco Marathon competition. The eighth annual event is slated to take place again on the streets of downtown Houston, Texas, on April 24-27 at Discovery Green Park. The RHS team will be looking to build on its outstanding inaugural experience in 2013 as it designs, builds and tests an ultra-energy-efficient vehicle that can go the farthest using the least amount of energy.

Glen View Elementary: ALA focuses on kindness, kindergarten to visit farm

Kindergarten news
Glen View Elementary kindergarten students are enjoying the cooler weather and are looking forward to the upcoming October activities and field trips.
This month, we are talking about fire safety, Louisiana and United States symbols as well as learning new sight words and letter sounds.
The highlight of our week was the Imagination Movers concert in Monroe, and we are looking forward to visiting Papa Simpson’s Farm at the end of the month.

GSU football team walks out

Frustration felt by the Grambling State football program reached a boiling point Wednesday as team members did not report for practice after walking out during a meeting with GSU President Frank Pogue and other officials the previous night.
University officials said this morning they’re confident the Tigers will return to practice this afternoon.

Tech scoreboard coming together

Work on installing Louisiana Tech’s $1.2 million high definition video display board for the Thomas Assembly Center continues and is on pace to be ready to go when the school’s basketball teams tip off their seasons. In addition to the board, the project also includes a customized sound system for the TAC and a video board control room which will be utilized for both football and basketball.

Tech soccer preparing for two-game home stand

With the conference schedule now halfway through, Louisiana Tech has an important two-game home stand this weekend as it hosts UTEP at 7 p.m. Friday at and Southern Miss at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.
Tech (7-7-1, 2-3 C-USA) currently sits two points back of UTEP (9-3-3, 2-1-2 C-USA) for the fifth spot and four points ahead of Southern Miss (6-5-4, 0-3-2 C-USA) in the west division. The top five from each division advance to compete in the Conference USA Tournament in Houston.

Loretta Mitchell

Funeral services will be held for Loretta Mitchell, age 73, at 3:00 p.m., on Friday, October 18, 2013, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia. Rev. Stephen Boyd will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Friday. Burial will be in Monte Vista cemetery in Johnson City, TN at a later date. Mrs. Mitchell was born February 6, 1940, in Heflin, LA to Monroe and Minnie Tims McPherson. She entered into rest on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, in Ruston, LA. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the Church of Christ in Arcadia.

Funeral services for Mrs. Carmen Alexander Crawford, age 83, of Zachary, LA formerly of Ruston, LA will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 18, 2013 at The Bridge Community Church (Hwy. 167 North) in Ruston, LA. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon until service time at the church. Officiating the service will be Dr. Reggie Bridges of First Baptist Church of Zachary, LA and PastorJames Skinner of The Bridge. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs.

Virginia Galloway Trout

Funeral services for Virginia Galloway Trout age 97, will be held 11:00 AM Friday, October 18, 2013 in the Chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA with Dr. Chris Craig officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. She was born on August 9, 1916 in Arcadia to the union of Mary Fuller and William Young Galloway and passed away on Monday October 14, 2013 in Shreveport, LA. Mrs. Trout was a long time resident of Ruston, LA, member of First Baptist Church and graduate of LA Tech. She was employed at LA Tech for 30 years as secretary to the president, retiring in 1970.
