Pet of the week

042114 Pet of the Week.jpg

Gloria came to 4 Paws barely alive when she was a puppy. With the care of a special volunteer she is now ready for her loving home. She loves to take baths and likes to do sleepovers with her special volunteer. A terrier mix, she is golden in color. She would be a great family pet. Adoption fees are $65. Call 251-DOGS for more information. Come see all the dogs at the shelter, located at 290 Rodeo Road. The office is open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday or by appointment.

O.K.'s Corral: Some athletes just can’t stay out of trouble

in
Davis, OK.jpg

Here we go again.
Another chapter has been added to the “Boys Gone Wild” book in professional sports.
Or, specifically, the National Football League.
In earlier segments, such culprits as Darren Sharper, Pacman Jones and Aaron Hernandez were scrutinized for their less than Good Housekeeping behavior.
Now we have two players from the San Francisco 49ers and one from the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks who have graced the non-game report area of the sports section.

In an all-important District 2-5A showdown against Alexandria Senior High School, the Ruston High Bearcats took care of business before starting their holiday celebration.
Ruston won two of three games over ASH, maintaining a one-game lead over the Trojans in the district race.
David Burkhalter threw a one-hitter to lead the Bearcats to the Game 1 win, striking out nine Spartans in the process to pick up the victory.
Garrett Soileau led RHS offensively in the opener with a two-RBI home run while Ben LeBlanc and Seth White added two hits each.

Navari, Richie.jpg

as all it took for Southern Miss to clinch the series over Louisiana Tech after defeating the Bulldogs, 1-0, despite a gem of a pitching performance by Richie Navari Saturday afternoon at Pete Taylor Park.
Although Navari was nearly perfect in an eight-inning complete game effort, Southern Miss (23-17, 12-5 Conference USA) had back-to-back base hits in the sixth inning before a sacrifice fly to center field by Matt Durst plated the only run of the game for a Golden Eagle victory over Tech (10-26, 4-16 C-USA).

in

Reports from several national media outlets late Saturday night said that Louisiana Tech men’s basketball coach Michael White is the top target for the same job at the University of Tennessee.
White just finished his third season at Louisiana Tech, where he averaged 28 wins over the past two seasons and finished tied for first both years and recently signed a six-year contract extension.
