Ruston moves to title game

Ruston used a big four-run first inning during Tuesday’s 14-year-old Dixie Regional Baseball Tourament to roll to a 5-0 win over the West Monroe Americans. Ruston only had one hit in that first inning but took full advantage of three walks and two West Monroe errors. Aaron Hoenke (pictured above) went the distance on the mound for Ruston to record the shutout win. The victory qualified Ruston for the Louisiana Dixie Boys state tournament. The West Monroe Americans and West Monroe Nationals will meet at 7 p.m.

Trainers promoted at Tech

Jessica Hulderman and Justin Wheeler were jointly announced today as assistant athletic trainers for the Louisiana Tech sports medicine staff.
Both individuals have spent the past two seasons at Tech and have used the opportunity to further enhance their work experience with Bulldog and Lady Techster coaching staffs, staff physicians and the department.

Grambling Legends reception set

A reception for the 2014 Grambling Legend induction class will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Eddie G. Robinson Museum on the Grambling State University campus. The 2014 Grambling Legends class will be inducted into the Grambling Legends Sports Hall of Fame at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Monroe Civic Center.

JA of Ruston Donates to Local Schools

Junior Auxiliary of Ruston donated playground equipment to the Lincoln Parish Early Childhood Center, Choudrant Elementary and Dubach School. The JAs are thankful to Builders Supply of Ruston for their donation of timber for this project.

Still time to help area arts group

Drawing set for tonight

The North Central Louisiana Arts Council (NCLAC) has extended the drawing for its Keep the Arts Afloat campaign.
The winning donor’s name will be drawn at 7:30 p.m. today at the Dixie Center for the Arts during the Dog Days of Summer Art Crawl. The Art Crawl will feature artists at eight downtown locations.

Consistently inconsistent politics

The only thing consistent about politics is its inconsistency. Take, for starters, the race to fill the 3rd Judicial District’s Division B judgeship.
Back in January, state Sen. Rick Gallot, D-Ruston, announced he was running for the seat being vacated by retiring Judge Wayne Smith. Gallot spent almost six months campaigning for the job before deciding in mid June that he really didn’t want to be a judge after all.
The timing wasn’t right, he said, plus he had “no burning desire” to run. His withdrawal narrowed the field to local attorneys Lewis Jones, Tyler Storms and Tommy Rogers.

We are required to monitor your drinking water for chlorine residual at our point of collection taps at the same time bacteriological samples are collected. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether or not your drinking water meets health standards. During the monitoring period of May 01, 2014 to May 31, 2014, the Hico Water System did not monitor for chlorine at the same time bacteriological samples were collected, and therefore we cannot be sure of the quality of your water during that time.
