Breaking the silence of PTSD

Earlier this week we learned of the second shooting to take place at Fort Hood, this time killing three and wounding 16.
In 2009, another shooter fatally shot 13 people and injured more than 30 others. This was deemed the worst shooting to ever take place on an American military base.
In reports that have been released it has been stated that both men suffered from mental illness.
My question is the terminology “mental illness” as it is associated with our military personnel. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is not a terminology to throw around lightly.

Wildwood Express sure to be a Dixie hit

One of our biggest Dixie Center events is right around the corner. On April 12, the ninth annual Joe Woods Wildwood Express Showcase will take the historic stage at 6 p.m. We celebrate the life and legacy of Joe as we bring back band members who played in his original band and singers who often have a tie to Joe, and always a tie to the music he performed at the Dixie Theater every Saturday night.

Monthly musical events planned for Tech

Louisiana Tech University’s Percussion Studio is planning a variety of events for the month of April, including a performance by internationally known guest artist, an ensemble festival and a percussion clinic.

Today She-e Wu, an international percussionist, will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Stone Theatre. Wu is an associate professor of music and chair of performance and jazz facilities at Rutgers University.

Dixie Dancers continue to perform

Ruston’s Dixie Dancers have performed at various venues throughout five parishes in North Louisiana. They have 73 dances in their repertoire and have completed 342 performances. Their tap dance shows feature themes such as Valentine’s Day, Mardi Gras, St, Patrick’s Day, Americana, Country, Cajun, Patriotic, and Christmas. For more information, contact Jane Boone at 255-7864.
