Bearcats hold off Pineville

Ruston High School finished the 2014 regular season baseball slate on a winning note Friday as the Bearcats defeated Pineville 2-1 at the RHS Baseball Complex.
The Bearcats finished the regular season at 21-11 overall and 13-1 in District 2-5A and should find out their first-round playoff opponent as the Class 5A playoff brackets are expected to be released today.
Class 4A and lower brackets are expected to be released Tuesday.

G-Men win at Southern

Yariel Medina (3) and the Grambling State Tigers split a doubleheader at Southern Saturday, winning 6-3 and losing 6-5. The teams will play the final game of the series at 1 p.m. today in a game that will be televised by Cox Sports Television.

Tech golf team heads to C-USA championships

Louisiana Tech’s golf team enters the postseason this week as the 2014 Conference USA Golf Championship tees off today at Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond, Okla.
The 14 C-USA men’s golf teams will play 18 holes per day on the East Championship Course, a 7,100-yard Pete Dye design, which also annually hosts the Oklahoma State Championships.
The three-day championship will be held through Tuesday. While every course the Bulldogs have played on this season has been a par-72 challenge, Oak Tree’s two courses both play to a par 70.

Book sees special way of life eroding

My career as a writer had its genesis way back in 1972 when Uncle Zeke from Beaver Creek was born on the pages of Homer’s Guardian Journal. I’d like to say I was the first in my family to see my articles published. I’d like to, but I can’t. My little sister, Linda Dupree, beat me to it. As a teen, she had her Just Ramblin’ column appearing weekly in the Winn Parish Enterprise a couple of years before Uncle Zeke made his appearance.

TV series on life in delta to begin Wednesday

Louisiana Public Broadcasting will broadcast the complete “Alive! In America’s Delta” series beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday with the premiere of the “Life on the Edge” episode.
The six-part series presents a behind the scenes look at Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) biologists, enforcement agents and technicians working to responsibly manage and protect the state’s abundant natural resources.
“LPB’s skilled production team has done a remarkable job showcasing our dedicated staff and the mission they serve,” said LDWF Secretary Robert Barham.

Fatal crash in Union Parish

At 6:20 a.m., Friday troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 15 north of Louisiana Highway 549.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 26-year-old Richard Stanley of Farmerville, was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 15 when it crossed into the northbound lane and struck a 2014 Freightliner 18-wheeler, driven by 35-year-old Cedric Williams of Vicksburg, Miss., that was traveling north on Louisiana Highway 15.

Keeping busy, finding some Godly wisdom

As I look out my window, I see storm clouds gathering. We have a tornado watch. Here’s hoping it blows over, but I thought I’d better do this now just in case it gets really rough.
Tomorrow evening is my deadline, but I am going to be super busy all day tomorrow and tomorrow evening, so want to get ahead of the game.
How’s this schedule for a 93-year-old?

Adams, Walpole join in marriage

Corky Adams, of West Monroe, and Jed Walpole, of Ruston, were joined in holy matrimony in a 5 p.m. ceremony April 26, 2014, at the Barn on Pipes Road.

The bride is the daughter of Glenn and Cheryl Adams, of Farmerville. She is the granddaughter of Tillie Adams and the late Buddy Adams, of Winnsboro, June Hebert and the late Charles Hebert, of West Monroe.

The groom is the son of Mike and Pam Walpole, of Ruston. He is the grandson of Mable and Leamon Best, of Ruston, and Ruth and J.N. Walpole, of Ruston.

Katie Coffman, of Ruston, and Blake Till, of Ruston, were united in holy matrimony at 6 p.m. ceremony April 26, 2014, at Creekwood Gardens.

The bride is the daughter of Mary K. Grubbs, of Ruston, and Danny Coffman, of Aledo, Texas. She is the granddaughter of Pat Bloxom, of Ruston, the late Charles Bloxom, the late Jan Coffman and the late Don Coffman.

The groom is the son of Lisa Till, of Ruston, and Todd Till, of Bernice. He is the grandson of Gretchen and Jerry Till, of Bernice, Lynda and Sonny Cook, of Ruston, and the late Ronnye Hester, of Dubach.
