School Board to revisit policy revision

The Lincoln Parish School Board unanimously agreed to table a portion of its proposed revised policies related to corporal punishment in the school system.
The vote came during Tuesday’s regular board meeting.
District 11 board member George Mack Jr. made the substitute motion to pass policy revisions relating to administration of medication and student fees, fines and charges, but to table discussion on the corporal punishment section.
Mack said he had “some concerns” about corporal punishment.

Holidays in CedarTown to offer gifts, other activities

Ceder Creek School’s fall fundraiser, Holidays in CedarTown, begins Thursday.
The three-day event continues through Saturday at the Ruston Civic Center.
Shopping is open from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday, then continues from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Admission is $5.
This is the 28th year that the event has been held, and it appears to not be slowing down with more than 50 booths and dozens of vendors expected to be on hand for the holiday marketplace, said Lynda Steed, director of advancement at Cedar Creek School.

Local exhibit to highlight female artists

Ruston Artisans recently announced their charity exhibition, “The Power of Fe,” in support of the Domestic Abuse Resistance Team.
The exhibition will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays.
The exhibit opens Thursday and runs through Nov. 19 at Ruston Artisans, located at 203 W. Alabama Ave.
The opening public reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the gallery.

Bearcats to host East St. John

Ruston High School is the No. 7 seed in the Louisiana High School Athletics Asssociation Class 5A playoffs. Junior quarterback Eric Outley (7) and the Bearcats will play host to East St. John at 7 p.m. Friday to begin postseason play. Tickets for the game are on sale at the RHS main office for $8 each during normal school hours, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. on today and Thursday and from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Friday.

Tech soccer duo scores in class

Kgoale, Laque earn C-USA All-Academic honors

Louisiana Tech seniors Nomvula Kgoale and Haley Laque were named to the 2017 Conference USA InTouch Credit Union Women’s All-Academic Team, announced by the league office.
They garnered two spots on the 11-person first team, marking the second straight season Tech has had multiple players receive C-USA All-Academic accolades.
Kgoale, a versatile midfielder from Polokwane, South Africa, has a 3.53 cumulative GPA in sociology. She was named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll as a junior.

Alpha Phi Alpha lends helping hand to CCA

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. of Grambling State University recently held a food drive and donated 602 food items to Christian Community Action. Among the volunteers were Donavon Travis, Omar Sims,Xavier Ogunyemi, Trace Payne, Nathan Ismael, Christian Bailey, DaJun Morris, Chauncey Wells, Roderick Atkinson, Major Woods, Louis Grant, Jeffery Harris and Willie Balancier .

‘Selfies: From Digital to Physical’

The North Central Louisiana Arts Council recently announced an exhibit of paintings by Amanda Roe.
In this exhibit the artist takes selfies from her social media accounts and re-imagines them into physical self-portraits.
For people not familiar with the term “selfie,” it is simply a photo taken of you by yourself.
The photo is then used on social media in places like Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram.

I’ve been reading, “The Naked Communist,” by W. Cleon Skousen. He lists the 45 Communist Party strategy goals Communists seek to achieve. Following is a sampling of the strategy goals. See if you don’t recognize a familiar pattern being seen in America today.
1. Promote the United Nations as the only hope for mankind.
2. Capture one or both of the political parties of the United States.
3. Get control of the schools. Soften the curriculum.
4. Infiltrate the press. Get control of editorial writing, policy-making positions, book reviews, and assignments.
