Star clarinetist to perform at parish library

As a soloist, he has traveled the world, performing extensively across the United States, Europe, Canada, Mexico, Japan and Israel — now star clarinetist Igor Begelman is coming to perform in Lincoln Parish.
Courtesy of the Piatagorsky Foundation, Begelman will be performing at the Lincoln Parish Library at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Library Events Center.

Rock Island Greenway moving forward

First segment to be ready by end of March

The first segment of the Rock Island Greenway shared-use path is expected to be ready by the end of March, weather permitting.
City Development Director Ammen Jordan and representatives of Mabry Construction, of Ruston, the firm laying the first section of the path, held their final pre-construction meeting Tuesday.
“Everything is looking really good,” Jordan said.

Krewe of Allegro Mardi Gras Ball on tap

The Krewe of Allegro invites you to the 18th annual Krewe of Allegro Mardi Gras Ball and Silent Auction on Feb. 18 at the Ruston Civic Center.
This is a not-to-be-missed evening out, and a great way to chase away your winter blues.
The nonprofits housed in the Dixie Center for the Arts work together on the Ball in order to raise funds for the Dixie Center’s Sustaining Building Fund.
At 89 years old, the historic Dixie Center has been a source of arts and entertainment for over eight decades.

Do not forget about tomorrow

I have come to the conclusion that today’s society is largely centered around a YOLO, or “you only live once,” mentality. There is no denying that many college students, myself included, find themselves believing that they will be young forever, so they tend to live their lives with no consideration or worry about the future.
It’s so easy to get distracted, especially during the college years. I sometimes find myself getting so caught up in the parties and late night adventures that I forget this stage in life is not permanent.
