Summer reading program comes to library

Summer is almost here, so it’s time to take vacations, sit back, relax and catch up on some reading.
“Summer Reading at the library is here to help with that endeavor,” Sarah Creekmore, administrative assistant for the Lincoln Parish Library, said. “This year, the theme is ‘Build a Better World,’ and library has all kinds of great games, events, and book suggestions for people of all ages.”
To start things off, the library staff will celebrate the youngest readers with the children’s Summer Reading Kick-off Party from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday in the Library Events Center.

Library purchases tablets

Joe Creekmore, 8, uses one of the 25 tablets recently purchased by the Lincoln Parish Library. The units have educational applications and cannot be connected to the internet. They are now available for use.

GSU names director of admissions, recruitment

DeVaria Hudson has joined the Grambling State University staff as director of admissions and recruitment.
“As we continue to grow our enrollment, it was essential that the right person be selected to serve in this role and Ms. DeVaria Hudson is that person,” Damon Wade, vice president of institutional effectiveness and enrollment management, said.
Hudson, a Grambling native, has more than 15 years of experience in higher education.
“I’m elated to return home and serve my university and community,” she said.

Jordan: Community excited about new trail

More than two dozen people gathered for the official inaugural walk of the first completed section of Rock Island Greenway shared-use path.
The greenway is a biking and walking path being built on the bed of the defunct Rock Island Railroad. The first segment of the greenway stretches approximately 1 mile between West Kentucky Avenue and the Interstate 20 service road.

Bearcats to play spring scrimmage game

The Ruston High School Bearcats will play their annual spring scrimmage game at 5:30 p.m. today against Wossman at L.J. “Hoss” Garrett Stadium. Entry fee will be $5 with RHS students getting in free with a school ID card. Barbecue pulled-pork sandwiches will be sold for $6 per plate as a fundraiser for the RHS Football Booster Club.

Diamond ’Dogs drop series opener at Middle Tennessee

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The Bulldogs had two runs, before registering their first out, but it wasn’t enough as Louisiana Tech dropped the series opener at Middle Tennessee 6-3 on Friday night.
Jordan Washam was the lone run producer for the Bulldogs, as the lefty blasted a two-run shot with nobody out in the top of the first to give Louisiana an early 2-0 lead.

Tech softball to start NCAA Regional play

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Anyone who attended Thursday’s press conference at Rhoads Stadium for the teams competing in this weekend’s Tuscaloosa Regional would think the Minnesota Gophers are an underdog.
In fact, numerous times throughout the Gophers 15-minutes in front of the camera, Minnesota head coach Jessica Allister was quizzed by the media about her team playing the “underdog role” in a regional comprised of Alabama, Louisiana Tech and Albany.
