Tech’s Wells named LSWA Hitter of the Week

Louisiana Tech senior Hunter Wells put together a phenomenal weekend at the plate on the road against Rice, hitting .611 in four games.


Louisiana Tech third baseman Hunter Wells was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Hitter of the Week following an 11-for-18 weekend at the plate at Rice.

Wells batted a blistering .611 in the four-game series sweep against the Owls, tallying eight runs scored, seven RBIs and a home run as the No. 13 Bulldogs outscored Rice 46-16 over the weekend.

Wells opened the weekend and capped off the weekend with four-hit performances, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs and a double on Friday and then putting together a 4-for-6 day at the plate on Sunday with a double and a team-best four runs scored.

Wells also shined during Tech’s doubleheader sweep on Saturday, going 1-for-3 in game one with a run scored. In game two, Wells blasted an opposite field, three-run homer to highlight his two-hit, five RBIs performance.

The Katy, Texas native also extended his hitting streak to 17 games on Sunday. Wells is batting .431 with 32 total bases in just 12 C-USA games so far this season.?

LA Tech’s four-game sweep of the Owls marked its first road sweep of Rice in program history. The Bulldogs (24-7, 10-2 C-USA) will host Southern Miss this weekend for a matchup between the top two teams in the C-USA’s West Division standings.?Wells joins Louisiana Tech outfielder Adarius Myers as the first two LSWA Hitter of the Week honorees this season. Myers earned the award after a 5-for-8 weekend against UAB two weekends ago.
