The Cedar Creek Lady Cougars (7-7) won a defensive battle 43-28 in a Lincoln Parish matchup at Choudrant (8-12) on Tuesday.

Caroline James led Creek with 11 points, while Alivia Lee scored 8 points with two three-pointers. Leah Sutherland and Olivia Underwood each knocked down two threepointers to finish with 7 and 6 points, respectively.

“I was really proud of our defensive effort tonight,” Cedar Creek coach Katie Hall said. “I felt like we kept them out of rhythm offensively. Our point guard Caroline James had a really good night on both ends. Offensively I was proud of us getting paint touches against their zone. We still need to get better at not settling for the outside shot and continue to attack the paint but overall, I was proud of these girls and their effort tonight, especially during midterms.”

Creek knocked down two threepointers in the first quarter and added a balanced attack by staying aggressive towards the basket with five made free-throws to lead going into the break.

With four more threes in the second half, the Lady Cougars coasted to their seventh win of the season.

Creek will return to the court tonight at the Brickhouse against No. 11 (Division V Non-select) Summerfield (12-4) at 6 p.m.

For Choudrant, the Lady Aggies were led by Sadie Jones with 12 points, while Reese Brown finished with 9 points. Brelyn Pyle added 4.

“Cedar Creek did a good job defensively and played hard, we got stuck in a rut early on and couldn’t get in an offensive groove,” Lady Aggies coach Brandy Roberson said.

Choudrant will take a break for the holidays and will be back in action in January.
