Robert B. Moore

Robert B. Moore, former Ruston resident, died at his home in Minden during the evening of Friday January 26, 2024, at age 75, after several years of ill-health.

Throughout, he maintained a positive outlook and a good sense of humor. He was devoted to family, and routinely called and texted to catch up with the goings-on of siblings and relatives.

Robert was born in Ruston on December 23, 1948 to Dr. John A. and Gladys B. Moore. He attended Eastland Elementary, and was member of Den 2 Cub Scouts and Troop 47 Boy Scouts in Ruston. He played trumpet in the high school marching band, and graduated from Ruston High School in May 1966.

He attended Louisiana Tech, but left to enlist in the US Army in 1969, serving in the Signal Corps in Cam Ranh Bay during the Vietnam war. After his term of service, he returned home and completed a degree in Business at Louisiana Tech, graduating in March 1975. In 1974, he married Twyla Lee, and they later adopted two sons, who completed the loving family home.

He, like his other 3 brothers, worked at the Ruston Daily Leader during his adolescence and young adulthood, where he was a paperboy, linotype operator, and finally assistant pressman.

He then worked at Sherrard’s TV, along with his brother David, and after marriage, Robert joined his father- in- law in working at Ludlow Inc. in Homer, where he worked until his retirement.

Sporting a beard for most of his adult like, and toting a wide girth, he was called on for many years to serve as Santa Claus.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife Twyla; his parents, John and Gladys Moore; his brother, John A. “Jack” Moore Jr., and his sister Mary K. Moore Rocha Hesson.

He is survived by sons, Geoffry Moore (Krissy) of Minden, and Richard Moore of Lancaster, Texas; brothers, Henry Moore (Rose) of Holland, Michign, and Dr. David Moore (Paula) of Blacksburg, Virginia; cousins, Patricia Moore Wilson of Huntly, Illinois, Catherine Moore Smith (Ralph) of Tucson, Arizona, Christine Moore Kidder of Burleson, Texas, Edward C. Moore Jr. of Indianapolis, Linda Moore Hagen (Paul) of Indianapolis, Joseph R. Moore of Anchorage, Alaska, Mary Ellen Richards Broome of Sonora, California, Frank T. Richards of Everett, Washington, and Bonnie Richards Hayes of Mulino, Oregon; nieces and nephews, Laurel Moore Smith (James) of Pearland, Texas, Malia Moore of Garland, Texas, Kevin Moore of Texas, Dr. Mary Esther Rocha (Bryan Lethcoe) of Houston, Colin Jeansonne- Moore of Blacksburg, Virginia, and Zeke Jeansonne-Moore ( Rachel) of Radford, Virginia; and several grandchildren, great-nieces and greatnephews.

His mortal remains were cremated, and will be placed next to his loving wife of 44 years, Twyla, in the Weldon Baptist Church Cemetery in Union Parish. A memorial service will be held for the extended family later this winter/spring.
