John Davidson Calhoun

John Davidson Calhoun passed away of natural causes on January 17, 2021, in Ruston, LA.

He was predeceased by his wife, Nita Evans Calhoun, and his parents, John D. Calhoun, Sr. and Helen Bosshard Calhoun.

John is survived by his loving sister, Katharine Calhoun (husband Tom Fisher) of Decatur, GA, his beloved step-daughter, Cindy Craig (husband Alan Craig) of Hideaway, TX, and her daughter, Hannah Schafer, who was the light of his life.

He also leaves behind many treasured friends, among them: Will Lancaster, Marydel Estorco Cates, Sue McFadden, and Lynell Buckley, all of Ruston, LA, and Nick DeCorte, Jr. of West Monroe, LA.

John was born on November 20, 1947 in Monroe, LA, but soon moved to Cedar Grove, NJ, where he lived until age 15.

Cedar Grove held a big piece of his heart long after the family returned to Monroe.

John was a graduate of Neville High School and earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in history from Northeast Louisiana University (ULM) and a Master’s in Library Science from Florida State University.

He was employed at Prescott Memorial Library at Louisiana Tech University for 33 years until his retirement.

John was a highly intelligent man with a big heart. He loved history, telling his wonderful stories, children, animals, and The Sopranos.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Princeton Place and Compassus Hospice in Ruston for their care for John during the past year.

A memorial service to celebrate John’s life will be held later this year when it is safe for people to gather.

For those wishing to honor John’s memory, a contribution to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital(https:// www.stjude.org/) or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals(https:// www.aspca.org/) would be most appreciated.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com.
