Mrs. Alma Ricks Dickerson (10-21-2009)
Funeral service for Mrs. Alma Ricks Dickerson, age 79, of Ruston will be held Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Rev. Andy Hurst, Rev. Rolly Walker and Rev. Jerry Hilbun.  A graveside service will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Quitman under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Alma was born in Quitman on December 11, 1929 and passed away on October, 13, 2009. She was the only child of Heward and Arvie Ricks. Alma graduated form Quitman High School. She earned her degree in Early Childhood Education from Louisiana Tech. Alma worked for twenty-five years in Morehouse,   Jackson, and Cameron Parishes. While a young teacher, she met her husband Ural Weldon Dickerson at a teachers meeting where she was asked to serve. After her marriage, they moved to Cameron, LA where they worked together in the Parish School System and raised “the Twins.” After their retirement, they moved the family to Ruston where they enjoyed gardening, entertaining family and friends, and shopping for the “JJs”. Alma was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. She was active in the Littera Club, DMA (Don’t Mention Age) and Retired Teachers Association. She is preceded in death by her husband Ural Weldon Dickerson. 
She is survived by her son: Dr. Byron Dickerson and wife Lisa, and their children: Julia and Jesse of Suwanee, GA and her daughter: Lydia Dickerson of Ruston, LA.   The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Princeton Place, Hospice of Caring Hearts, and Dr. J.V. Jones for their support during her illness. Also, to the many extended family friends who showed acts of love and kindness for Mrs. Dickerson.
