Mrs. Shirley C. Knox (10-15-2009)

Knox will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Rock Corner Baptist Church’s Family Life Center with Pastor Karl Norris and Minister Floyd Knox officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Knox was born December 16, 1935 in Hico, Louisiana and died October 14, 2009 in Ruston following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Knox retired from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe (ULM) where she worked as a purchasing agent. She had a special love for everyone she met and lived her life in obedience to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Shirley especially loved attending Rock Corner Baptist Church where she was an active member and was always available to help out any way she could. She also enjoyed attending Christian and Gospel music gatherings with her very dear and special friend, Tony Gullett. The family would also like to extend a very special thank you to everyone that helped care for Mrs. Knox and words cannot express our gratitude for all you have done. Mrs. Knox is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Knox of Ruston and her parents, J. H. Carter and Ruby Green Carter from Hico. She was also preceded in death by several other close relatives. Shirley is survived by her seven children, Barbara and husband Roy Daniel Johnston of Dubach, her son James (Jimmy) Raymond Knox and wife Nancy of Ruston, Floyd L. Knox and wife Brenda of Ruston, Betty Williamson of Dubach, Mike (“Weaver”) Knox and wife Karen of Choudrant, John (“String”) Knox and wife Carol, and Harold (“Harry”) Knox and wife Karen of Arlington, Texas. Mrs. Knox is also leaving behind her sisters, Mary Alice and husband Bobby Davis of Dubach, Pat and husband Winfred Weldonof Shreveport, Sue Gand husband Fred Glenn of Shreveport, and 2 brothers, James Carter and wife Frances of Stone Mountain, Georgia and David Carter and wife Alice of Ruston. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and “adopted children”. Pallbearers will be Shirley’s grandsons, Dirk Johnston, Jason Johnston, Raymond Knox, Bryan Knox, Chad Knox, Floyd A. Knox, Kenneth Lee and Michael Williamson. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. untill 7 p.m., Friday, October 16, 2009 at Rock Corner Baptist Church Family Life Center.
