Mrs. Ursula E. Coombe Panula (10-15-2009)
Funeral service for Mrs. Ursula E. Coombe Panula, age 91, of Ruston will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 9, 2009 at Grace United Methodist Church in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Rev. Wayne Evans. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Panula was born in Baltic, MI on October 22, 1917 and passed away in Ruston, LA on October 5, 2009.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Dr. Gustaf Panula and her siblings: Jack Coombe, Bill Coombe, Betty Wimberly and Audrey Herbison. Mrs Panula was raised in Painesdale, Michigan and graduated from Adams Township High school in 1935. She then attended and graduated from Sparrow Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. After moving to Ruston, Ursula worked at Lincoln General Hospital in many departments. Among those were a registered nurse, Director of Housekeeping, and Director of Purchasing. Mrs. Panula was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Holley-Blount/ Nettie White Circle and the Lady’s Quilting Group. She was also involved in the Christian Community Action of Ruston, the American Cancer Society, and was past president of the Cosmos Club. She is survived by her sisters: Dorothy Reeser of Ruston, LA; Marie Dunstan of Royal Oak, Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Charles Hoffman, Dr. Virgil Orr, Dr. George Smith, Dr. Marvin Green. Troy Anders, Truman Potts, and Bob Frank. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.
