Velma Hogan Cox (09-28-2009)
Precious wife, mother, and grandmother went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 24, 2009.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Ruston, LA. Officiating was be Rev. William Smith. Burial followed in Mulhearn Memorial Park in Monroe, LA.

Velma was born February 24, 1923, to the union of Hollis J. and Amy Bertha Hogan in Harmon, LA. Velma was married to Richard F. Cox, the love of her life, for 69 years.
Velma was always a faithful member of Lakeshore Baptist Church until she moved with her husband , Richard, to Ruston, where they became members of Temple Baptist Church.

Although failing health prevented her from getting out, she continued to read and derive great comfort and pleasure from her Bible. Everyone who knew her loved her sweet nature and beautiful smile. All through her illness so many family and friends faithfully called or visited. She was such a “trooper” during her long illness, always trying so hard to face the many challenges that were constantly thrown at her. There was never a more courageous and beautiful lady. She was always gracious and graceful until the end. Mother was our treasure and we shall love, honor, and cherish her memory forever.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hollis J. Hogan, and one grandson, Ryan Cox. Those left to cherish her memory are as follows: her husband, Richard F. Cox; her son, Richard Reagan Cox with his wife Sue form Northport, AL;
Daughters, Judith Cox Mears and husband, Don from Ruston, LA; Carolyn Cox Joyce and husband, Gary from Monroe, LA; and Norma Cox Elmore and husband, Bill from Ruston, LA;. Her loving grandchildren are as follows: Con Cox; and Kristi Cox Rylee; Christopher Mears; Jon Mears and his wife, Mary, Carie Joyce; Amanda Joyce; Brian Elmore; Lori Elmore; and Jennifer Elmore. Her loving great-grandchildren are as follows: Amanda Cox, Maryssa Mears, Mark Mears, Skyler Mears, and Bastien Mears, and Madelyn Cox. Her brothers and sisters: Margie Anderson; Charles Hogan and his wife, June; Jackie Hamilton and her husband, Joe; and James Hogan and his wife, Paulette.
