Rebecca R. Foster (09-14-2009)
Memorial services for Rebecca R. Foster (Franklin), age 88, of Ruston, formerly of New Orleans, LA will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 2:30 P.M. in the Burkhalter Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston, LA. Rev. Jerry Hilbun will officiate this service. A celebration of Rebecca’s life will take place in New Orleans, LA on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at First Street United Methodist Church. A private family entombment will take place on Monday, September 21, 2009 at Providence Memorial Park and Mausoleum in New Orleans, LA. Rebecca was born on October 9, 1921 in Peoria, MS and passed away on September 10, 2009 in Ruston, LA. Her home church was Mt. Zion United Methodist Church -2100 Louisiana Avenue, and was associated with First Street United Methodist Church where she participated in the Shalom Zone. Rebecca was a Licensed Practical Nurse for many years and served at the following hospitals: Charity Hospital, Touro Hospital, Mercy Hospital, and Baptist Memorial. She also served many private families and was employed by Total Community Action. Mrs. Foster was also involved with Acorn and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star - Harmony Chapter #16 in New Orleans. She was preceded in death by her parents: Rev. and Mrs. George and Selma Robinson; her husband: Ernest Garrett Foster; daughter: Sharon Foster Dunn; 3 brothers: James Robinson & wife, Betty; David Robinson & wife, Caldonia; and Joseph Robinson; and Step Son: Ernest Charles Foster.
Mrs. Foster is survived by her daughter: Rev. Connie Foster Breaux of Ruston, LA; 4 grandchildren: Shawn Anthony Breaux of Murfreesboro, TN; Thomas Ronald Mitchell, III of New Orleans, LA; Dorcas D. Foster-Jackson & husband, Cyrus of Ruston, LA; and Lasheena Simmons of New Orleans, LA; 3 great grandchildren: Christian T. Breaux, Kayla Brie Mitchell of Houston, TX; and Tymon Ronald Mitchell of New Orleans, LA; siblings: Barbara Barnum & husband, Herman of Moss Point, MS; Robert Lee Robinson & wife, Grace of Los Angeles, CA; and George Robinson, Jr. & wife, Rose of New York, NY; aunts: Mattie Foster Daniels and Myrtis Robinson; son in law: Charles “Charlie” Dunn, Jr.; special friends Juanita Waller of Washington D.C., Hazel Davis, Metairie and Barbara Evans of the family and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family and friends.
