Juanita was born January 8, 1923 to Aubye and Lannie Lowe in her maternal grandmother’s house on Bailey St. in Haynesville, LA. She spent her early years of her life in Garland City, AR where he had worked in a general store for his brother, Luther Lowe.

When the Red River broke and flooded their home in 1932, they gathered their possessions in a wooden wagon pulled by two mules and moved back to Haynesville, where she spent the remaining days of her life, except for four years at LA Tech University (41-45) where she was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority and graduated with a degree in Home Economics. Juanita took much pride in receiving and wearing her 60 year LA Tech Alumni Pin! Her special treat was attending the Lady Techsters Basketball games where she had her season ticket. Juanita married the only true love of her life, Wendell Dawson Garrett on December 4, 1947 in her parent’s home outside of Haynesville. Besides Dawson and she, there were 10 people in attendance. She never asked for much; she valued the principals of life.

During the 10 years of marriage prior to Dawson’s death from leukemia, they were blessed with a daughter and a son. After his death, Juanita never dated stating she would never find anyone as good as Dawson had been to her. She dedicated her life to caring for her children, working initially for Arkla Gas Co., serving as a Kindergarten teacher in the Haynesville School system before being hired as a Home Economist for Louisiana Power and Light Co. She worked for LP&L until her retirement in 1985. She was involved in many Haynesville activities from Cub Scout Den Mother to volunteering for the Butterfly Festival. Juanita loved her family, her many friends in Haynesville as well as those in Delta Kappa Gamma. She especially loved her Lord and Almighty God, her church and the members of her Gleaner’s Sunday School Class. She saw many preachers come and go, but she ALWAYS had her church! She had a heart of gold and baked many cakes she passed out to others. She truly new the joy of GIVING!

Preceding her in death was her wonderful husband, Dawson (1957), her mother, Aubye (1981), her father, Lannie (1991), and her little Shihtzu bundle of joy, Razzle Dazzel (2004).

Juanita is survived by her daughter, Cathy Lynell Johnson & husband, Michael of Haynesville, LA; her son, Wendell D. Garrett, Jr., DDS of El Dorado, AR; her granddaughter, Pepper Johnson Lyon & husband, Jason of Dallas, TX; her sister, Mitzi Lowe Perry of Shreveport, LA; and her brother, Larry Lowe & wife Marti of Keithville, LA; many nieces, nephews, and friends. She will also be missed by many hummingbirds and butterflies that frequented her feeders as well as Yellow, her Golden Retriever that someone left in her yard to raise last Thanksgiving Day. They were good company for each other. Serving as pallbearers will be Alan Middlebrooks, John Ed Colvin, Bob Bond, Jason Lyon, Frank Bush, and Keith Killgore.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Haynesville Methodist Gleaner’s Sunday School Class, the members of the Whitetail Deer Hunting Club who hunted behind her house and watched over her, and Dr. Eddie Butler.

The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Clint Butler, Dr. Sam Abshire, their staffs, and each of the RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and other health care members who provided her comfort during her hospitalization and rehabilitation.
