Human remains found in Odessa identified as Ruston native

Human remains found near Odessa, Texas, in 2019 have been identified as those of Ruston native Timothy Daniel Gomez, according to information released by the Ector County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division.

After investigation, the remains were estimated to be five years old.

On Sept. 10, 2019, at 11:43 a.m., the Ector County Sheriff ’s Office responded to a call for service in Gardendale, Texas, in reference to possible human remains located in a pasture on a ranch.

Deputies arrived on scene and confirmed the discovery to be human remains. Ector County Sheriff ’s Office initiated an investigation into the discovery.

The Criminal Investigation Division, with assistance of the Texas Rangers Unsolved Crimes Investigation Program, worked to identify the remains, according to investigator Corinna McMeans. Investigators utilized the services of Othram, Inc., to conduct advanced DNA analysis, and a lead was provided to investigators.

On Sept. 23, 2021, through further investigation and DNA confirmation, the remains were confirmed to be that of Gomez, who is believed to have family still living in the Ruston area.
