For Amber Brazzel, RN, CRHCP and Clinic Director for the Michael Brooks Family Clinic, her thoughts are already focused on a delicious Thanksgiving meal. However, it’s not her holiday table she’s thinking about.
“We are making plans to feed those in our community who might otherwise go hungry on Thanksgiving Day,” Brazzel said. “So, I am reaching out to ask for assistance from our community to make this possible.”
That means it’s time for the Michael Brooks Family Clinic Annual Food Drive & Cook Out. Scheduled for Nov. 15, the clinic team sees it as a way of doing more than just feeding those who are hungry.
“We also want to show kindness and support to those who may be feeling the pain of poverty and misfortune,” Brazzle continued. “Your help will make it possible for this annual charitable tradition to continue.”
The Brooks Clinic is a family medical facility that provides comprehensive health care for the entire family. Serving the family unit offers its employees a front row seat to those who may be in most need. It’s this reality that drives the holiday project.
“At a time when many people are focused on giving thanks for the bounty in their lives, others are feeling the pain of need,” Brazzel said.
Last year, the effort fed over 500 people during the week of Thanksgiving. Brazzel anticipates those numbers will increase this year. The Michael Brooks Family Clinic relies on generous donations from caring people to provide this important service to the less fortunate residents of our community.
According to Brazzel, this year’s project will mirror last year’s successful effort. The plan is to provide one lunch per person and one bag of food per car/family during the event. Members of the community are asked to consider supporting through one of the following options: offer to be a food drive drop off location, provide non-perishable foods, provide food and supplies for the cookout or provide tax-deductible monetary donations.
For businesses and organizations that choose to contribute at a sponsorship level, the event offers these opportunities: Grateful Sponsor ($200 — your logo on banner for Community Food Drive & Cook Out, sponsorship post on Facebook/Instagram, business cards or flyers provided by your business to go in bags); Thankful Sponsor ($100 — your logo on banner for Community Food Drive & Cook Out, sponsorship post on Facebook/ Instagram); and Gracious Sponsor ($50 — logo on banner for Community Food Drive & Cook Out).
Sponsors are asked to provide a digital copy of a logo. For more information, contact Amber at 318436-2600.
“Any donation, no matter how large or small, will make a difference,” Brazzel said. “Your kindness and generosity will be greatly appreciated and will make a difference in the lives of so many people right here in Ruston.”
