It may not be a “Red Out” promotion or on national television, but it’s homecoming and that should be enough to bring out Louisiana Tech University fans in large numbers Saturday.
Let’s hope so, anyway, as the Bulldogs face another important game with the 3 p.m. Western Athletic Conference battle against New Mexico State.
For Tech’s last home contest, a WAC opener against Hawaii earlier this month, more than 20,000 fans showed up at Joe Aillet Stadium.
Along with one of the most enthusiastic crowds in recent seasons for a home game, a huge national viewing audience was present via the ESPN2 network.
It made for a super Saturday in Bulldogs’ country. Wouldn’t it be great if a similar turnout is on hand Saturday to take in the game and also be a part of the many activities scheduled in conjunction with homecoming?
It’s already been a busy week around campus, starting with a “Paint the Town” project and kickoff pep rally Monday and continuing with a “Fun Day” at the plaza Tuesday, a Union Board talent show at Howard Auditorium Wednesday and a parade through downtown Ruston Thursday.
Tonight, another pep rally is set for the Thomas Assembly Center.
Saturday, of course, is the big day and it begins in earnest with various tailgating events at “The Joe” along with an 11 a.m. All-Sports reunion at the TAC.
Tailgaters are urged to concoct a barbecue-style theme that will help “roast” the Aggies.
Of course, all of these events are a prelude to the showdown between the Bulldogs and Aggies, who have waged high-scoring and exciting battles during recent years.
The last two, in fact, have gone down to the last possession, with Tech pulling out a 35-31 victory in Las Cruces last year and cementing their first postseason appearance since 2001.
Another exciting game is expected Saturday between the two easternmost located members of the WAC.
Be in the Bulldogs’ number and help make it another exciting weekend at “The Joe.”
