Two Lincoln Parish softball teams aren’t ready for their winning streaks to be over.In fact, Choudrant and Cedar Creek would prefer that the Ws stretch right through Saturday.
If that happens, then the parish would have not one, but two state champions in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.
But to reach Saturday’s round of action, the Lady Cougars (24-7-1) and Lady Aggies (27-5) must take care of business in quarterfinal play at Sulphur’s Frasch Park Friday.
Cedar Creek will take an eight-game winning streak into a 4 p.m. Class 1A duel against Oberlin (19-10-1) before Choudrant carries its 19-game string of victories into a 6 p.m. Class B meeting versus Grace Christian (12-13).
Victories by the parish tandem Friday would leave them with semifinal assignments Saturday morning. Title games are scheduled later in the day at the sprawling city complex that has become a “home away from home” for Cedar Creek.
The Lady Cougars are making their 17th appearance at the state tournament in the last 18 seasons. It’s the longest streak of success of any LHSAA program, regardless of classification.
To reach Sulphur again, Cedar Creek had to take a 2-0 road win against Vermilion Catholic in last week’s regionals after having started out with a 16-0 rout over Christian Life.
The No. 4 seeded representative from District 2-1A has averaged nine runs in its last eight contests, including three wins that featured double-digit run totals.
Choudrant’s bats have been a pain for opposing pitchers.
The Lady Aggies have every starter in their lineup with a .300-plus average entering the state tournament.
