Renovations to Ruston High track facilities and pay raises for support personnel topped the agenda for the monthly Lincoln Parish School Board meeting Tuesday.Superintendent of Schools Danny Bell announced the state had confirmed 2007-08 school year pay raises for certified personnel — which total $3,333 once the mandated raise from the Minimum Foundation Program formula is added on — and support employees. SB members voted that those in the latter category, which include secretaries, cafeteria workers, maintenance staff and other non-certificated employees, should receive an extra $250 in local funding as well as the newly-allotted $1,000 salary increase from the state.
“We realize some of the difficulties our support workers face,” Bell said. “We’d like to recommend (the $250 raise) so (the salary increases) will be better than $100 a month.”
The local support personnel pay raises will cost the school system $98,000 per year.
Board members also granted permission to bid approximately $400,000 in construction and renovations to Ruston High School’s James Stadium. The improvements would include an expansion of the facilities that now house offices and a locker room used by the RHS girls’ track team and visiting football teams. The number of lockers would double, and the expansion is expected to cut down on overcrowding problems when visiting football teams use the facilities.
Bell said renovation proposals arose following community concerns regarding the equity of facilities for male and female athletes and the lack of storage space.
The amendment allows the city to pass down stop-work orders and pull electricity service, among other measures, to enforce conditions set out by city for such development work.
The board also approved the city’s code enforcement division’s action to begin condemning three structures located on South Vienna Street.
They are located at 1224 S. Vienna St., 4009 S. Vienna St., and 4015 S. Vienna St.
