The search is on for the next Teen, Miss, Ms, Mrs. Louisiana U.S., which is to be presented at the Shreveport Performing Arts Center in Shreveport, on Saturday, April 26.
The Miss Louisiana U.S. competition is not just any ordinary competition or pageant. The Miss Louisiana U.S. competition is an official state preliminary to the Miss U.S. Scholarship Competition. The Miss U.S. Competition awards over $2,500,000 in scholarship and prizes yearly. The competition consists of 3 segments: evening gown, fitness, and interview which is 50% of the competition. Miss Louisiana U.S. Teen, Miss Louisiana U.S., Ms. Louisiana U.S., and Mrs. Louisiana U.S., will win an all expense paid trip to Hollywood, Calif. to compete at the nationally televised event along with thousands of dollars worth of scholarships, modeling contracts, and additional prizes.

“Want to Start a Small Business?” a free workshop will be presented in Arcadia from 6-9 p.m.
Tuesday (April 8) at the LSU AgCenter-Bienville Extension Office, 2710 Maple St. in Arcadia.
Topics covered include business ideas, licenses required, small business resources, business plans and what’s needed to apply for small business loans. The workshop will be presented by the Louisiana Small Business Development Center and the LSU AgCenter in partnership with the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture.

Speaker to discuss Russia’s history, future
Louisiana Tech will host its second distinguished speaker event with the Shaping the 21st Century: Focus on Russia series Thursday, April 3.
Dr. Mark Von Hagen, professor and chair of the department of history at Arizona State University, will discuss “Russia Moving Forward; Looking Back” at 10:15 a.m. in Howard Auditorium, Center for the Performing Arts.
Von Hagen is the former director of the Harriman Institute at Columbia University, which was the first Russian studies institute in the United States.
“Anybody in the field of Russian history knows of him and is well-versed in his work,” said Dr. Laurie Stoff, an assistant professor of history at Tech. “All of the speakers are the foremost in their fields. They are top-notch experts who can give students insights to Russian culture and history. This is an opportunity for students to get inside the heads of the people who know Russia best.”
Some of Von Hagen’s publications include Soldiers in the Proletarian Dictatorship: The Red Army and the Soviet Socialist State, published in 1990; War in a European Borderland: Occupations and Occupation Plans in Galicia and Ukraine, 1914-1918, published in 2007; and Russian Empire: Space, People, Power, 1700-1930, also published in 2007.
The following event held in conjunction with the Focus on Russia series will be the International Days Food and Cultural Festival, sponsored by the International Student Association, which will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, in Centennial Plaza.
