Elisha Ministries, a faith based supportive housing agency that provides housing to chronically homeless mentally ill individuals, will be having a fund and food donation Campaign from Nov. 1 through Dec. 31. Glen View invites dads to school

From 6:45-8 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, Glen View Elementary will host DIBELS With Dads. DIBELS stands for Dads Inspiring Belief in Elementary Literacy Strategies. Dads will have doughnuts and milk with their children and will then accompany them to their classrooms for a short reading lesson to learn about the strategies being used. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. in conjunction with the March of Dimes and Grambling State University present a series of free parenting workshops open to the general public. Expectant and new parents are encouraged to attend at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11 in Robinson Hall (across from the Student Union) on GSU's campus. Infant clothing will be available. The Ruston Area Ministerial Alliance will meet at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19. The meeting will be held at Life Point Church. The church is located on U.S. 167 South across from the Methodist Children's Home. All area ministers are encouraged to attend.

The Lincoln Parish Library will present King of the Hill at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12.

Based on Hotchner's own childhood in St. Louis, King of the Hill is a look at a young boy who, in the tradition of Huck Finn, uses the audacity and cunning of a child to persevere as he comes face-to-face with the corruption, humor and dignity of human life.

Lincoln Parish Library and the North Central Louisiana Arts Council will present the PG-13 rated movie.

The Grambling Unit of Retired Teachers will hold its next meeting at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18 in the community center of Grambling. All members are encouraged to attend.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will hold a public meeting for an upcoming project designed to alleviate flooding in the vicinity of Lake D’Arbonne at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at the Farmerville Recreation Center on Cox Ferry Road. The meeting is being planned to allow the public to learn more about the existing damn structures and planned flood control project. Work on the estimated $7.5 million-$10 million project will involve building a new spillway and floodgates at Lake D’Arbonne.
Grambling to teach safe driving
The Grambling AARP chapter is sponsoring a safe driving course for ages 50 and older on Nov. 21 from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. The costs for the course are $12 for AARP member and $14 for non-members. Christmas in Dubach

Craft booth spaces are still available for the “Christmas in Dubach” Festival. There is no charge for spaces, just donate an item for our “Silent Auction”. The festival begins at 9 A.M., Saturday, Dec. 5. The crafters will be inside the Scott Hamilton Warehouse. Electricity and a concession will be available. Santa and the Christmas Parade will be at 2:30 p.m. Santa will be available for pictures in the Scott Hamilton Warehouse after the parade. The Ruston Trailblazer recycling collection center is relocating from Wal-Mart parking lot to Road Camp Road across from the Detention Center off La. 33. Recycling collection for newspaper, office paper, aluminum cans and telephone books will continue at this new location. This site will also be open to the public for the self-service drop-off of indicated materials. Hours of operation are yet to be determined. Wounded Healers, the grief support group, will meet from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10 at Trinity United Methodist Church in room 210 (the New Horizon classroom), upstairs in the office wing (west). Wounded Healers is for those grieving the death of a loved one. This group is part of Trinity’s community outreach. Residents need not be a member of any church to attend. Kiwanis Pancake Day is planned from 6:30 a.m.-9 a.m. and from 4:30-7 p.m. Friday Nov. 13 at Ruston Civic Center. The cost is $6 per ticket at the door, and take-outs are available. The Ludley McCall Williams American Legion Post 593 will be honoring veterans during their 10th Annual Veteran Day Program at 11 a.m. Nov. 11. The program will be held at the Grambling Community Center, located 127 King Street, Grambling. The guest speaker will be Patrick Jefferson. PAWS of Northeast Louisiana announces it’s “Make Your Pet A Star” calendar photo contest fundraiser. Enter your pet’s photos online or by mail. Thirteen winning photos will be chosen and featured in the PAWS 2010 calendar. Deadline for the photo conest is Nov. 14. Calendars will be available beginning on Dec. 5 for $17. Grambling Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will have their first meeting for Delta GEMS at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov.14. Delta GEMS is a new program of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. This program is designed to instill in high school girls the need to excel academically, to provide tools that will enable girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve levels of success and to create compassionate, caring and community minded young women. This program is for girls ages 14-18 who reside in Lincoln, Bienville, Jackson, Union and Winn parishes. The attire for this meeting is business. A parent must accompany the teen to the meeting. La. 146 will be closed Nov. 16, weather permitting, approximately 5 miles west of U.S. 167 and one mile east of La. 151 (Goose Creek) for construction activities associated with building the Big Creek and Big Creek Relief Bridges. La. 146 will remain closed until both bridges have been completed. The detour route for the public traveling west on La. 146 coming from Vienna will be U.S. 167 North, LA 151 West and LA 563 South.

The detour route for the public traveling east on La. 146 coming from Homer will be La. 563 North, La. 151 East and U.S. 167 South (Dubach to Vienna).

A portion of Clay Street, from Martin Luther King Drive extending north approximately 0.1 miles, will be closed beginning Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 through Tuesday, Dec. 15. The closure, weather permitting, is to conduct construction activities associated with the Clay Street Improvements project.
Choudrant Restoration and Beautification Society will host a Veterans Day Tribute at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 at Anchor Tabernacle. Lunch will follow with veterans receiving complimentary tickets. The event is open to the public, but CRABS would like to personally invite all veterans. To Ruston with Love is an annual Thanksgiving dinner held at the Civic Center and sponsored by First Baptist Church of Ruston. It is free for anyone who wishes to attend. Dinner starts at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov.18th. Transportation may be arranged by calling 255-4628 on Tuesday, November 17th between 10 am and 2 pm.
Most Christmas trees are decorated with homemade and/or ornate ornaments, lights, and garland but the tree at the Ruston Parks and Recreation office will be a little bit different this holiday season. It will be collecting mittens, gloves, hats and scarves to provide warmth for the needy in Ruston. All apparel will be donated to local charities and they will be collecting until Jan. 15. LDAF seedlings ready for pre-orders
The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry is taking pre-orders for its superior pine and hardwood tree seedlings grown at state nurseries in DeRidder, Columbia and Monroe.

The tree seedlings will be sold through next spring’s seedling harvesting process on a first come, first served basis while supplies last. Seedlings will be available for pickup on Dec. 15 through mid-February. Order forms are available on the LDAF Web site at www.ldaf.la.gov and click on the link to the Office of Forestry or by calling 225-925-4515.

Ruston Community Theatre will soon present the second show of the 2009-10 season, A Nice Family Gathering written by Phil Olson. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Nov.19-21 and at 2 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Dixie Center for the Arts. Directed by Jennifer Bridges, A Nice Family Gathering takes a comical look at family love during the Thanksgiving holiday. The beloved patriarch of the family has passed away, and it's the first family gathering since his passing. Fortunately, he returns as a ghost with a message for his wife. There's just one problem —she cannot see or hear him. Antics ensue when mom brings a date to dinner. The show contains adult content. The cast includes Casey Allen, Linda Bernard, Billy C. Chandler, Tracy Calloway, Charlette Madden, Brenda Mitchell, Allen Tuten and Janie Stephenson.
